The Oswego State men’s and women’s track and field team traveled to the Bucknell Invite on Saturday, April 12 and stayed for the weekend. The Bucknell Invite is known for the large number of participating schools and for attracting athletes from various NCAA divisions, ranging from div. I to div. III.

This large meetup was seen in the men’s 800m where there were 159 participants, 18 of whom did not start. Jeffrey Simmons placed in 119th place with a time of 1:59.90. A ways behind him was Tom Mahunik, who was in 138th place with a time of 2:05.81. Another honorable mention would be Noah Melita who placed 31st in the men’s 5000m with a time of 15:47.94.

The highlights of the women’s team would be Rhiannon Butchko who placed in eighth place with a score of 1.53 in the women’s high jump. The women’s 1500 was filled with numerous competitors and Elena Gaffney placed in 50th place with a time of 4:52.39. Lastly, in women’s 800m, Angelina Buttigieg placed in 137th place with a time of 2:38.20. Finishing up with the first day of the Bucknell Invite, they moved on to the second on Sunday, April 13, with more people placed in different categories, specifically the men’s track and field team.

Starting with women, in the 3000m, Jessica Torrey ran a time of 11:38.63, ending up in 33rd place. Following closely behind her was Julia Weaver who placed in 35th place with a time of 11:50.99.

Moving on to the men’s team, starting with the men’s triple jump. Cory Morton was the only athlete that placed and ended up in 34th place with a score of 12.64. Moving on to the men’s 100m, there were 111 competitors with 16 that did not start. Dan Mars placed in 48th place with a time of 11.03. Continuing the men’s 100m, Malik Davis had a time of 11.31, resulting in him being in 79th place. Finishing up the men’s 100m, Soren Wolford finished in 92nd place with a time of 11.50.

In the men’s 200m, Dan Mars again takes the lead for the Oswego Lakers in 59th place with a time of 22.40. Following him was Jack Hickey with a time of 22.95 in 95th place. The last area that the men’s Lakers got placed in was men’s 400m, with Hickey placing in 55th place with a time of 50.71. These placements may seem low, but they were competing against at least a 100 other athletes gunning for first place.
