Lately, I have been hearing that the dire wolves that have been extinct for over 10,000 years will be brought back.
A company named Colossal Biosciences claims that they have brought back the dire wolf and that it is the first animal to be brought back from extinction. It should not have been brought back. There were several reasons why these animals became extinct; they were not able to adapt to a world that was constantly changing. The habitat that they were once used to is gone and there is a high possibility that they will not adapt to a new environment. There are many questions that the company should be asking itself, such as whether they will be able to provide the same food that the wolves once ate and whether they will pose threats to species that they are not aware of.
The term “playing God” fits perfectly into this situation, because why should we bring an animal back that has been gone for so long? This is not an ethical situation at all and can cause danger to the animal itself, other animals, as well as humans. It can also possibly cause harm to ecosystems. And there are so many things that we do not know about the animal.
Yes, we know what they may have eaten, or what they may have been like. But we were not there to personally see it happen; we can only make assumptions. Bringing back genetically modified extinct animals is a terrible idea, especially the dire wolves.
