The Oswego women’s lacrosse team has been dominating this season and this week was no different. The Lakers won both matches against SUNY Morrisville and SUNY Canton. The first game was the domination against the Mustangs.
You see a pattern in every game that the Lakers win by a lot this season. They go full power during the first set and as the matches keep going, the team has significant changes in the players, or they play in a way to control the game and prevent injuries. The Lakers were superior the entire game against the Mustangs, scoring 11 goals in the first period. The Lakers did not take long to open the score with less than a minute on the clock. And after five minutes, the game was 6-0 for the Lakers. All the goals were evenly distributed throughout the team. However, one player stood out recently for the Lakers: Mackenzie Winn. She was the first to score in this game and contributed to five points of the match, scoring twice and assisting three times. Winn was named athlete of the week and also offensive athlete of the week after many great performances recently.
The first two periods went with the Lakers dominating and not giving any chances, letting the Mustangs take zero shots on target. At the same time, the team produced 20 shots on the goal. The dominance did not stop there. By the end of the third quarter, the score was 20-0. With the game on their hand, the Lakers relaxed, so for the first time, the Mustangs got a chance and scored three goals in three chances to end the score at 20-3 for the Lakers. Two other players that were essential for this win were Madison Davis and Noelle Smith, both having five points in the match.
The second game was against the Kangaroos and was a vast, dominant win again. The pattern did not change when the Lakers opened the score with less than a minute on the clock. Addison Costello scored, assisted by Smith. The second goal came from the game star, Davis, this time. She scored once and gave five assists during the game. The assists went at the right moments, giving two in the first period and assisting one more time in all the other three periods. Unlike the last game, the Lakers conceded in the first quarter, but that did not change the Lakers’ dominance, ending the second quarter with 11-3 in the score.
The third and fourth quarters were calmer, with the Lakers still pressuring but maintaining the significant lead they had and being able to increase by scoring four more goals. The game finished 14-5.
The Lakers’ next game will be on the road against the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragons on April 5. This is another big match to maintain their unbeaten record in the SUNYAC standings.
