Question: I feel like I try everything but it is impossible to be healthy in college. What should I do?
Answer: If you have not done this, I would recommend including friends and staff to help you stay consistent. You are more likely to see your friends more frequently than staff so tell them about your goals, that you need help sticking to them and that you would appreciate their help in this process. Having people close to you know this information will hold you more accountable for your actions and they can be the voice of reason for you. For instance, say that you really want soda and your friend is like, “Let’s get some water together.” If they did not know about your goals they probably would have let you get the soda, but in this situation they decided to join you in getting the healthier option because they knew about it. When I say staff, I am referring to the personal trainers at the gym that can help you work out and get to where you want to be and the dietitian who may be able to help with the food side. I think there are a few resources on campus that you can use, you just need to reach out to them.
Question: I stopped liking someone because I found out that they were a Republican. Am I in the wrong?
Answer: No. If their political views do not line up with what you believe then it makes no sense to continue a relationship because although opposites attract, after a while those opposite tendencies begin to become annoying. For some, it ends up being the end of the relationship. Therefore, maybe you saved yourself from a long drawn out relationship that would have amounted to nothing. Also, there is no rulebook for acceptable reasons to stop liking someone one, it is person by person. If this information was enough, then it is perfectly fine in my book. There are people who try to continue liking them and some even get married, but do you really want to be the wife, husband or partner that has to vote to “cancel out” their partner’s vote?
Question: If women wear something too revealing you guys complain and say you lose respect for us. If women wear something too modest you guys complain that it does not look pretty enough, so what should I wear this Halloween? Because I am confused.
Answer: Wear whatever you want to wear. Wear something revealing. Wear something modest. Wear something pink. Wear something blue. Wear literally whatever you want. People are going to perceive you as whatever they want to. It can not be helped. Therefore, dress for yourself and the vibe that you are feeling that night. If the first night you like the more revealing costume, wear it. If the second night you are feeling more modest, wear the more modest costume. If you do not know what vibe you are going for or what you want to wear, ask a friend what the vibe will be like tonight and if you agree with them, then wear whatever it is. As long as you feel good and believe you look beautiful, then that is all that matters.
