The Oswego State women’s tennis team won another game this season, improving their record to a ten winning streaks. The game was against Nazareth University and due to weather, the match was moved indoors to Romney Field House. The game started tensely, with the Lakers already losing the first doubles clash. Avery Borman and Isabella Eason lost their game, scoring just two points over rivals Catherine Zak and Kenna Ellis. The Golden Flyers won the first 6-2. With the Lakers behind on the scoreboard, the two undefeated duos this season are left playing as doubles. The first was Kathryn Salamida and Emily Lyga, who beat their opponents, tied everything and took it to the third game. They were far superior to Ali Klee and Sarah Stone, winning their set 6-1. The third decisive game was between Emily DeLuca and Leah Bell and the Lakers faced Anna Spencer and Victoria Cioni. The victory came quickly for the Lakers, maintaining the unbeaten record of these doubles and guaranteeing another 6-2 win in the doubles.
After the doubles came the singles and it started the same way for the Lakers a defeat for Lyga against Zak. The game went to three sets, with the first being won by Zak 6-2. The second set was Lyga’s comeback attempt, making it a tight 6-4. The Lakers were hopeful that they would be able to win in the last set, but Zak was much superior and won 6-1. The second game was Salamida facing Ellis. It was a great and well-balanced match. Salamida won the first set 6-3. The second set was more balanced but also had Salamida winning 6-4. The third singles match was by Rafaela Dimitrakopoulou. It was also a close match with identical scores to Salamida’s game, but this time, the victory went to the Golden Flyers. Stone won both sets by 6-3 and 6-4, respectively.
The Lakers needed to turn the Golden Flyers around in the next three singles matches. The game was very fair, with an open score starting with Bell facing Cioni. The first set was 6-3 for Bell and the second was 6-4 for her too. The fifth game of the night in the Dingulars was DeLuca and Klee. The Lakers also emerged victorious from the match, ensuring peace of mind for the home team. DeLuca won the first set narrowly, 7-6 and the second more calmly, 6-3. The last and decisive game of the night was between Borman for the Lakers and Spencer from the Golden Flyers. Both sets ended with the same result of 6-3 for Borman. Winning the last game and ensuring the Lakers’ unbeaten streak for another game.
The Lakers’ final score was 4-3. They will play Plattsburgh State on the road in their next match on Oct. 3.
