Megan Thee Stallion covers iconic song “We Will Rock You”

Megan Thee Stallion covering Queen’s iconic hit “We Will Rock You” was not on my 2024 Bingo card. However, the song is quite fitting for her given all that she has been through the years. Over the past four years, she has gone from being shot and constantly having other artists’ fans attack her for having a no.1 song on Billboard, a sold-out tour, dropping a great album and now hosting the VMAS. It has been a rollercoaster ride for the rapper, yet she still fought her way to the top and ignored all those who were trying to destroy her, and that is what she did in this song.

Her version of the song is about being confident in yourself and fighting to stay on top while acknowledging being in the spotlight and the negative and positive aspects of being on top as well as why she is on top.

The song begins with the classic “We will, we will rock you” chorus before diving into the harassment the rapper has faced with name-calling, fake videos and thousands of nasty comments. This can represent them trying to bring her spirit down and intimidate her.

Right off the bat, Megan comes swinging, making it clear that she does not see others as competition or let her haters get in the way of the second act of her album, continuing to perform at different arenas or making highly anticipated music videos. The rapper also highlights her rise to fame, mentioning how she’s now the one that people have to beat and how she has everyone’s best fighter losing sleep. I believe this is a reference to Nicki Minaj’s days of ranting online after Megan dropped her song “Hiss,” with the iconic bar “these h**s don’t be mad at Megan, these h**s made at Megan’s Law.” Following this, she includes the various steps toward success and her plan to stay on top. Again, the iconic chorus is played in between the verses, representing the haters in her life who are always trying to bring her spirit down.

The next few verses are about her acknowledging the fact that she is constantly in the spotlight and as well as why she is on top.

Megan is on top right now because of her successful tour. She points to this in the song, saying “we fill up arenas that’ll rock the whole nation.” This proves her superiority because it takes a lot of fame to fill arenas. She follows this with “Everybody watching and they came for you,” addressing both her fans and her haters. It is similar to how some were streaming Nicki Minaj’s new album, despite disliking her. However, there are other people who genuinely enjoy being around her and come to see her, which is why she could see the tears and hear the cheers.

In her last bar for the song she says how she is going to fight the fight so they can talk about her win for years, which could not be done if it were not for her fans and support system. It is hard enough dealing with the comments, videos, and photos, but with the right people by your side you can do anything. The song closes with the chorus, symbolic of a confident woman winning at life. At the end of the day, Megan’s rendition of “We Will Rock You” was very uplifting, the rap spin making it into a modern ballad of empowerment. People should feel pumped to hear the song and as if they can overcome anything with a lot of hard work and dedication.
