At 12:30 p.m. on April 10, SUNY Oswego announced that the artist to perform at OzFest 2024 will be American rapper Kiari Kendrell Cephus, known by his stage name Offset. The former Migos group member will perform at the yearly celebration at 6:30 p.m. on the last day of classes for the spring semester.
Known as a member of Migos, Offset’s rise to prominence was simultaneous with that of Quavo and Takeoff, the two other trio artists. Offset’s musical contributions include a large role in albums such as “Yung Rich Nation,” “Culture” and “No Warning,” with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin.
Following the death of Takeoff in November 2022, Offset released his second solo studio album “Set it Off” in 2023, which was received with notable acclaim. Despite no longer being an official group member, Offset’s position as a respected rapper remains rigid.
Excitement for Offset’s appearance has resonated across the student population, especially for the artist’s longtime listeners.
“When I heard Offset was coming to Oswego for OzFest, I almost didn’t believe it,” Nate Morison, a senior accounting student at SUNY Oswego, said. “I’ve listened to his music with the Migos as well as his individual projects for years, and I’m super excited to see him in person. OzFest will definitely be a ‘can’t miss’ concert for [me and] my friends. I already got my tickets. With Offset performing, OzFest will be a blast this year.”
OzFest is an end-of-the-year celebration coordinated by the Student Association Programming Board (SAPB) that unifies the student body before the week of final exams, an acknowledgment of the hard work and dedication each student has put in for 15 academic weeks.
OzFest 2023 featured Canadian singer-songwriter Jahron Anthony Brathwaite, also known as PartyNextDoor, and his feature drew a large portion of the student body to the celebration’s concert. With Offset’s domestic and international recognition, even more students are anticipated to attend.
The OzFest celebration is planned to be held in the Deborah F. Stanley Arena and Convocation Hall in Marano Campus Center, the heart of SUNY Oswego’s campus. OzFest hours will range from noon to 11:00 p.m. with various entertainment activities for participating students.
