Oswego State baseball moves to 11-8 after facing St. John Fisher University

Oswego  State men’s baseball has been on a tear recently. After winning two out of three games against SUNY Oneonta, the Lakers stand second in the SUNYAC rankings with a conference record of 2-1. After their doubleheader wins against Saint John Fisher University on April 9, the Lakers now have won five straight games.

Oswego got the job done yet again, beating Saint John Fisher by a score of 20-14 during their first matchup of the doubleheader. On Tuesday, Oswego hosted the Cardinals in a high-scoring matchup.

For Saint John Fisher, Brian Norsen recorded four hits out of five at bat. He helped the Cardinals on the scoreboard, recording five RBIs along with his four hits.

Jelani Hamer got it done for the Lakers, recording three hits and four RBIs during the Lakers’ six-score win.

Hamer also hammered a home run as he led the Lakers to victory. Stephen Haglund recorded his first home run of the season during the Lakers’ win. With Haglund’s home run, he brought in one runner for the Lakers. After his homer, the Lakers went up by a score of 18-8.

Alek Conrad pitched well for the Lakers, pitching two innings and allowing zero runs. Although the Lakers struggled to close out the game, as they allowed six runs in the ninth inning, Conrad pushed them to victory.

During the second leg of the doubleheader, the Lakers came out on top yet again, this time by a score of 11-1. Hamer showed up against the Cardinals. During the second game, Hamer picked up where he left off, this time with two hits and four RBIs.

Hamer picked up another home run, and he now has three homers on the season. After Hamer’s home run, the Lakers were winning the game by a score of 5-0.

Felix De Asa Delacruz put the second game to bed for the Lakers. As he hit a home run, the Lakers went up by a score of 11-0 in the sixth inning.

Pitching for the Lakers, Jai Sharma got the win. Pitching three straight innings for the Lakers, Sharma only allowed one hit and zero runs to score.

Nick Cody pitched the next two innings after Sharma. Cody was on top of his game as he also only allowed one hit with zero runs scored.

Oswego State baseball now stands in second place in the SUNYAC. The only team above them is SUNY Cortland.

Cortland will be tough to catch though, as they have already played and won nine conference matchups compared to Oswego’s two wins out of three conference games played.

Up next for the Lakers baseball team is a three-game series against SUNY Brockport. Starting on April 12, the Lakers will host Brockport to play three games over the weekend.

On April 13, the Lakers will host a doubleheader against the Golden Eagles, with the first game starting at noon and the second game to follow.

Brockport currently stands in third place in the conference with a conference record of 3-3. These games over the weekend will be important to the Lakers and where they stand for the rest of the season.
