APRIL FOOLS EDITION: Lana Del Rey runs for president

2024 is a big election year, and everyone is wondering who to vote for. The country seems to be divided, but another candidate has just joined the race to put voters at ease.

Since the recent Grammy snub of her newest album “Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd” (2023), Lana Del Rey has decided to run for president in the 2024 Presidential Election. Fans have recently been joking and wishing for their favorite celebrities to run, but no one actually expected for it to come true, especially Del Rey herself.

Her announcement was posted on her Instagram story last weekend. The post simply had half of her face showing with a black and white filter on top of it with the text “see you soon #LANA4PRESIDENT”.

Fans began reposting and creating memes, but Del Rey meant no funny business. After the post, she made a following story incuding all of the new laws she would enforce. Her main points were that “All men must buy their sad girlfriends flowers” and “Anyone who had Lana in their top three artists on Spotify would not have to pay taxes.” Del Rey said she is “for the people,” and mentioned how she worked at a Waffle House last year to get back in touch with her roots.

Many celebrities are all in support of her campaign as they have put “Live Luv Lana” in their bios. What has really helped Del Rey’s campaign is Taylor Swift (“Midnights”) posting Del Rey’s song “Norman F*cking Rockwell” on her Instagram page with the caption “about time we let women take the lead.”

People have been speculating that Taylor Swift will be running alongside Del Rey as vice president, as Swift was seen wearing a pin in support of Del Rey and also posting more political content.

Another candidate for VP fans who have been speculating is producer and songwriter Jack Antonoff, who produces and writes many of Swift and Del Rey’s songs. Del Rey went on Twitter saying that Antonoff will be a must in her Cabinet for he has become a part of her creative process, and she could not do it without him.

All of the indie sad-girls who have recently hit voting age are in outstanding support of Del Rey and her political campaign. Many of the girls are calling her “Mother” and say they will support her no matter what she tells them to do. When asked what Del Rey stands for politically, one girl wrote, “I don’t care what she stands for personally. She is Mother, and I will follow her no matter what.” Some would argue that this is probably not the best way to handle politics, but if Del Rey is uniting the country, maybe it is OK.

HAPPY APRIL FOOLS!
