Editor-in-Chief’s Column: Beginning of end of my time in Oswego

Winter break came and went as many breaks have in the past, but I felt like this one really helped rejuvenate me and prepare me for this semester. Being able to spend a lot of time with family and friends was very refreshing and definitely one of the highlights of the break. I enjoyed being able to shut my brain off for a month and really enjoy the last winter break of my life. After that I will never have a month-long break during the holidays until I retire, which is really bizarre to think about.

An even more bizarre thing to consider is the fact that I have returned to school for the start of a semester for the final time, and that has not fully sunk in yet. It does not feel real that three and a half years have already passed since I first set foot on campus as a freshman. However, I am excited to enjoy these final few months at Oswego and enjoy everything that I have poured hours upon hours into during my time here as a student.

One thing that I had really been looking forward to doing again was calling Oswego State hockey games. I have had so much fun covering the team week after week, and getting the chance to do it with good friends is an added bonus. I can tell I am more comfortable as a broadcaster than I was when I started last year, and even though it might not be what I am meant to be doing with my career, I will always be thankful for the opportunities that have been presented to me while at Oswego.

One thing I will not miss about Oswego is the consistent cold, dreary weather that never seems to let up throughout the winter months. The second I step outside I am given a swift reminder that I need to get wherever I need to be as soon as possible, no hanging around, because if I do, I might just freeze to death. You would think I would be accustomed to this kind of weather by now, given that it has been cold here for about four months already, but my body just cannot seem to get used to it. All of my complaining will be for nothing, however, because I am going to be moving to New York City with my girlfriend when it is all said and done, and it is not much better weather-wise.

I am not saying goodbye just yet, since there is still a lot of work to be done before I can call it quits on my college career. I am really glad that I have so many memories that I can look back on when I am walking across the stage in May. Hopefully I will make many more during these last few months that I can cherish forever.
