Semesters and seasons: things are changing fast: Editor-in-Chief’s Column

As a senior, it is coming to a point where it is difficult to decide what classes I want to take for the coming semester. What makes it even more difficult is that I have already passed the credit threshold in order to graduate and have no more required classes I need to take for my major, or my two minors.

Having passed that threshold creates another challenge for me: finding the motivation to want to take a full semester of classes when they do not mean much other than for my GPA. While I do like trying to maintain a solid GPA, I would rather take one class in order to stay a student and stay involved with the clubs and activities I am involved in. But there are other factors preventing that reality that I am not going to get into because it is almost a pipe dream at this point.

I am happy to be in this position though! Even though I do need to take more classes for the semester before I graduate, I can still feel a weight lifted off of my shoulders because I do not have to stress about credits and whether or not I need to take a class because it is required. Now, I am taking classes that I think will be interesting outside of my major and minors. I just hope that this spring semester is a breeze and is not too overwhelming. It has been seven hectic semesters so far, so hopefully the last one will be smooth.

I want to switch gears and talk about the weather here in Oswego. On Nov. 1, Oswego got its first snowfall. It did not even wait a day after Halloween to let everyone know that it is going to be a cold and snowy end of fall and winter. I thought I would be ok leaving my winter coat at home until Thanksgiving. That was a very bad idea apparently. I think I will be ok given that Thanksgiving break is only a few weeks away.

Speaking of Halloween, it seemed like a very empty Halloween, especially as it got later into the evening, and by later I mean 7:30 to 8 p.m. It seemed like some areas were uninterested in the festivities. I have seen other people on the internet agreeing with my sentiment, that they feel like people are not going trick-or-treating anymore. Maybe that is what happens when you get older; you stop noticing things, even things that used to be a staple of fall every year, like walking around with friends collecting as much candy as possible.

But even though I did not see many people, I hope that everyone enjoyed their Halloween!
