Oswego State golf finishes 2nd overall at Empire 8 Championship

The Oswego State golf team traveled to Cazenovia to finish their fall campaign in the Empire 8 Fall Championships, they finished the tournament at an impressive second place.

Edward Shanahan led the Lakers in the first round, in a four-way tie for eighth place with a score of 80 (+9).  Gavin Neuland and Tyler Donohue finished just behind Shanahan, as after their first 18 holes they finished tied for 12th place with scores of 81 (+10).  Conor Tierney, Jacob Banks and Evan McDonald at the heels of the rest of the team, finishing with scores of 82 (+11).  The Lakers finished the first round right in the middle, finishing fourth out of seven with a total score of 324 (+40).

St. John Fisher University dominated the first round, scoring a 309 (+25). The second through sixth place teams all finished within 8 points of one another.  Nazareth University ended the round with a score of 322 (+38), Russell Sage University finished with a 323 (+39), and Utica University was underneath the Lakers at a 327 (+43). Elmira University had a score of 330 (+46). Keuka University ended in last place with a 341 (+57). Bryce Barber from St. John Fisher led all golfers with a 75 (+4).

The Lakers had an impressive outing in the second round, improving to a score of 315 (+31).  Banks finished second in the second round, earning himself a 76 (+5). Shanahan finished the championship with two great scores, earning a 78 (+7) in the second round.  Tierney was one shot behind Shanahan with a 79 (+8) in round two. McDonald repeated his score in the first round, scoring an 82 (+11), Donohue also scored an 82 in the second round. Neuland finished his first ever Empire 8 Championship with an 83 (+12). Overall, Banks and Shanahan led the Lakers individually, with them each tying for fifth in the tournament. Tierney finished tied for 14th, Donahue finished 17th, Neuland and McDonald finished 18th. 

St. John Fisher also dominated the second round, earning a total score across both rounds with a 615 (+47), winning the tournament by a whopping 24 points. Utica finished third with a score of 646 (+78), Nazareth was right behind them with a 648 (+80). Russell Sage finished fifth with a score of 657 (+89), sixth place was Elmira, earning a 666 (+98), and finishing seventh was Keuka with a 691 (+123). 

The Lakers finished their fall campaign strong, as this was the highest placement they have had all year.  The Lakers’ spring season will begin in April.
