Oswego State golf finishes 6th overall at Oswego Fall Invitational

The Oswego State golf team kicked off the highly-anticipated Oswego Fall Invitational by finishing 5th out of 12 on the first day, and ended the tournament in 6th.

Leading the charge for the Lakers on the first day was Jake Owens, whose performance earned him a fourth-place tie on the leaderboard. With a commendable round one score of 74 (+3), Owens set the tone for the team’s success.

Gavin Neuland secured his position in the top ten, finishing the day in eighth place with a score of 76 (+5). Jacob Banks was right behind him, tying for tenth place with a round one score of 77 (+6).

Dante Cassella concluded the round with a score of 83 (+12). Meanwhile, Tyler Donohue held a share of 34th place with a round one score of 84. Evan McDonald, Edward Shanahan and John O’Neill each finished with scores of 85, placing them in a competitive tie at 14 over par.

Conor Tierney and Trent Robinson both displayed their skills on the course, posting matching first-round scores of +16. Michael DeHond ended the day with a score of 95 (+24).

Banks and McDonald led the second round with a score of 79 (+8). Banks ended up leading the team in total, scoring a 156 (+14). He tied for 14th place. McDonald, with an impressive six point improvement after the first round, finished the tournament 33rd overall with a score of 164 (+22).

Owens struggled in the second round, scoring an 84 (+13). This ten-point drop off left him at a score overall at 158(+16), giving him a tie for 18th place overall. Neuland also struggled in the second round with a score of 86 (+15), another ten-point dropoff for the Lakers. He left the invitational at a score of 162 (+20), putting him at 30th overall.

Shanahan improved in the second round, earning himself a score of 83 (+12) that left him overall at 168 (+26). He finished the invitational tied for 38th place. Just under him, the trio of Tierney, Cassella and Donohue all finished in 42nd place. Tierney improved in the second round, scoring an 82 (+11). Cassella scored an 86 (+15) and Donohue scored an 85 (+14). They all finished at a score of 169 (+27).

O’Neill and Robinson tied at 48th place, O’Neill scored an 87 (+16) in the second round while Robinson scored an 85 (+14). They both scored a 172 (+30) overall. DeHond improved by eight, scoring an 87 (+16) on the day. He finished in 56th place at a score of 182 (+40).

The Lakers will finish their fall season by traveling to Cazenovia to play in the Empire 8 Fall Championship. In last season’s Fall Championship the Lakers finished 2nd of eight. They hope to find the same success this year.
