Taylor Swift breaks internet yet again during Google Search puzzle game

Taylor Swift (“Midnights”) fans put their thinking caps on Sept. 19 to help unlock five “From the Vault” track titles that will be featured on “1989 (Taylor’s Version).”

Swift partnered with Google so fans across the world could play along to try to unlock the vault upon the release of “1989 (Taylor’s Version).”

“You’ll be helping Swifties around the world get out of the woods (or unlock the vault) as everyone collectively solves 33 million puzzles. And that’s how it works, that’s how you get the vault track titles!” Google said in a statement about the partnership.

Users were able to type “Taylor Swift” into Google search, where then a blue vault would appear in the right corner. After clicking on the vault, a scramble of letters displayed on the screen along with a hint that alluded to various songs off  “1989,” like her hits “Blank Space” and “Shake It Off.”

Users had to try and guess the word or phrase based on the hint and type it into the search bar to solve the puzzle and move on to the next one. There were 89 different puzzles each individual could solve.

Fans across the world spent hours solving puzzles, even taking to social media platforms like X (formerly known as Twitter) to help each other out and revealing puzzle answers.

At one point, the search engine began to glitch. Many fans claimed on social media that Swift “broke Google.” Fans also took to social media to complain about the puzzle not working for them or the fact it was not showing up at all for some.

Google released a statement on X about the issue.

“Swifties, the vault is jammed! But don’t worry, there are no blank spaces inside. We’re in our fix-it era and will be out of the woods soon,” Google said.

The issue seemed to be resolved the evening of the release. Fans took to X once it was fixed to let other users know and quickly got back to solving some puzzles.

On the morning of Sept. 20, Swift’s team said users reached the goal of 33 million unlocked puzzles and the vault track titles were released. The tracks were revealed to users right through the puzzle on Google search. Swift herself also posted different back covers for the album, with the back featuring the vault track titles.

“Here are the back covers and vault track titles for 1989 (my version),” Swift said in her Instagram caption. “I can’t wait for this one to be out, seriously. Thank you for playing along, sleuthing, puzzling and making these reveals so much chaotic fun.”

The vault track titles include the following: “Is It Over Now?” “Now That We Don’t Talk,” “Say Don’t Go,” “Suburban Legends” and “Sl*t!”

The highly anticipated album is set to release Oct. 27,  just two weeks after her concert film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” will be released in theaters.

This is not the only time Swift has had her fans playing games and figuring out elaborate clues to unlock the vault track titles. Her past re-records have involved letting her fans guess the titles for the vault tracks with only a few clues to work with.

Swift is notorious for having hidden messages and clues in almost anything she does, leaving swifties always on their toes.

“1989 (Taylor’s Version),” will be the fourth album Swift has re-recorded and released out of her six albums previously released under Big Machine Records, with others including “Fearless (Taylor’s Version),” “Red (Taylor’s Version)” and “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).” Her debut self-titled album and “reputation” are the only re-records left until she will have full ownership of all of her albums.
