Oswego State golf finishes fifth at Elmira College Invitational

On Sept. 19, Oswego State golf finished fifth place out of ten teams that were at the Elmira College Fall invitational. Other SUNY schools that competed were SUNY Canton and SUNY Delhi. Lakers junior, Jake Owens, had the best day on the green for the Lakers. Owens shot an 83 during his round of golf. Other Lakers golfers were right up there with Owens. Freshman Jacob Banks and junior Tyler Donohue shot an 84 during their rounds of golf. Sophomore Evan McDonald shot an 85 during his round. Graduate student Conor Tierney shot an 87 during his round. These scores kept Oswego in the middle of the pack. With nobody on the team shooting under 80 and nobody shooting over 90, Oswego finished right in the middle at fifth place.

Tournament leader, Adam Szlamczynski of SUNY Canton, shot a 72 during his round of golf. Another top performer during this tournament was Noah Tyler of SUNY Delhi; he shot a 78 during his round. Hilbert College had two golfers, Mike Petrus and Reese Chase, shoot 79 during their rounds. Christian Babcock of Elmira College also shot a 79 during his round. SUNY Delhi and Elmira College both had two teams competing in the tournament. Both of them had an “A” team and a “B” team competing.

Hilbert College finished first place during the Elmira College Invitational Tournament. Hilbert finished with a total score of 322. SUNY Delhi (A) finished in second place of the tournament with a score of 324. SUNY Canton finished third with a score of 327. Elmira College (A) finished fourth with a score of 333. Oswego State was right behind Elmira as they finished in fifth place with a score of 336. SUNY Delhi (B) finished in sixth place with a score of 339. Hobart College finished in seventh place with a score of 345. Russell Sage College finished in eighth place with a score of 348. Elmira (B) finished ninth place with a score of 385. Wells College finished  last place in the tournament with a score of 409.

So far this season, Lakers golf has competed in five different tournaments. Their best finish so far was third place out of seven teams during the Clarkson University Invitational. Jake Owens also led the Lakers during that invitational tournament. Owens shot a team best of 75 during his single round. Keeping it close, freshman Jacob Banks shot a 76 during the Clarkson Invitational. Looking ahead for the Lakers, this season will be done before we know it. With only two tournaments left, Oswego will be looking to have a top-flight finish during their next two tournaments.

Next for Lakers golf is a two day tournament. This tournament is being played at Oswego Country Club on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. With a long break for Lakers golf, the team will definitely be looking forward to hosting a tournament for the first time this season.
