Tyler Donohue led Lakers as they turn their attention to the Elmira Invitational.
The Oswego State Golf Team finished placing sixth at the St. John Fisher Invitational with Tyler Donahue leading the Lakers with a final round score of 77.
Donahue finished in 22nd place Monday after shooting +6 in the third and final round of the invitational which began Sunday. He finished the tournament alone in 16th place, totaling 242 strokes in the invitational. He climbed into 22nd place after falling behind in the first two rounds, shooting +23 on Sunday.
Jacob Banks finished the third round pencling in a score of 83 (+12), tying his first round score. He finished the tournament in 28th place overall. In front of Banks were two more Lakers, locking in 26th and 27th places.
Jake Owens led the Lakers Sunday after the first two rounds, shooting 79 and 78 for a combined +15 on the day. Owens slipped on Monday and tallied 88 strokes, bumping him from 16th place to 26th place overall at the conclusion of the third round.
Conor Tierney finished in 27th between Banks and Owens, shooting 83 in the final round. Tierney’s best shooting came in the second round where he put up 77 (+5) strokes, landing him tied for 20th after the first two rounds.
Blue Heron Hills gave the Lakers some trouble, finishing in sixth out of eight teams. The Lakers combined for 980 total strokes at the invitational’s conclusion.
The Lakers will be looking to make some noise at the Elmira College Fall Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 19th, where they took top honors in the Spring.
Last golf season brought the Lakers to the same course for the Elmira College Spring Invitational where the team exceeded expectations in the one day invitational.
Owens took the Lakers to victory with his impressive shooting of 81 (+9) through 18 holes, solidifying him in fourth place overall.
Shooting well on Sunday at the St. John Fisher Invitational, Owens lost grip going into the final round. This could make for revenge for him, going into a new, but familiar tournament with the weekend invitational in the past.
The rest of the Lakers backed up Owens’ impressive performance with their own great club work, taking fifth place, sixth place and tying for seventh place overall in the invitational.
Ryan Fecco captured fifth place shooting just one more than Owens, resulting in 82 strokes on the day.
Sixth place belonged to Oliver Walland, who shot four strokes more than Fecco, which wrapped up his day at 86 strokes. Evan McDonald tied for Seventh place overall on the day, shooting a solid 87 (+15) on the day.
With the Lakers returning to the home of their last team victory, they should be expected to bounce back from the St. John Fisher Invitational.
Look for Owens to return to Elmira Country Club with a vengeance and to defend his first place position for the Lakers. Shooting well on Sunday at the St. John Fisher Invitational, Owens lost grip going into the final round. This could make for revenge for him, going into a new, but familiar tournament with the weekend invitational in the past.
However, the Lakers lost graduates Fecco and Walland this season, who provided much needed support in the Lakers’ victory at the Elmira College Spring Invitational.
McDonald and Donahue, who are familiar with this course and playing in the spring invitational, will be looking to fill the void of the missing graduates. In addition, Banks, a freshman, is looking forward to his Elmira Country Club debut.
The Lakers will travel to the Elmira College Fall Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 11 a.m.
