At the Elmira Spring Invitational, which was held at the Elmira Country Club, the Oswego State golf team showed up in full force to compete. The Lakers had a fantastic day, exhibiting their skills and demonstrating that they are capable of competing by the end of the day with a team score of +48, which earned them the top spot in the invitational competition.
Jake Owens, who had an outstanding round of 81 through the first 18 holes for the Lakers, was in the driver’s seat. Ryan Fecco, who ended the day with a score of 82 and finished one stroke behind Owens, exhibited behavior that was strikingly similar to that of Owens. Oliver Wolland finished in third place on the team with a score of 86. He was only four strokes behind the leader, Fecco. In addition, Wolland, Owens, and Fecco were successful enough in the competition to finish in fourth, fifth, and sixth place respectively overall.
Evan McDonald, who finished in fourth place for the Lakers and tied for seventh place overall with a score of 87, also had a solid showing in this competition. Tyler Donahue is now the only person in sole control of 14th position after finishing the day with a score of 89.
The Lakers’ impressive showing in the Elmira Spring Invitational bodes well for their upcoming home invitational.
The last time the Lakers played in a home invitational was earlier this fall, and the Lakers put up strong performances both days, finishing third on the first day, and finishing tied for second on the second day.
The Lakers were led by Ryan Fecco, who finished in a tie for first place overall with a score of 143. Despite the fact that he was eliminated from medalist contention in a playoff at the 10th hole, he played exceptionally well throughout the whole competition. On day one, Fecco shot a score of +3, then on day two, he shot a score of -2, with an eagle on hole #6 and a birdie on hole #10. After shooting a 79 on day one, Jake Owens finished with a score of 76 on day two, a three-stroke improvement from his first round mark. Evan McDonald demonstrated amazing growth from day one to day two, climbing twelve positions on the leaderboard and completing the round with a score of 78, which was five strokes better than his total on day one. The three will share the common goal of bettering or matching the results they achieved this fall.
The Oswego Spring Invite will be played at the Oswego Country Club as the Lakers finish their regular season at home. The invitation is a two-day affair, with day one scheduled for Saturday, April 29, and day two scheduled for Sunday, April 30.
