Oswego State women’s lacrosse extends winning streak to four games
Oswego State women’s lacrosse has been on a roll in the month of April. With a win against Buffalo State on April 19, that is the Lakers fourth straight win this month. Looking ahead for this Lakers lacrosse team, they only have two more regular season games. These games will be critical to Oswego’s conference ranking because both games are against SUNYAC opponents.
On Saturday, April 15, the Lakers took on SUNY Plattsburgh at the Laker Turf Stadium. Winning by a score of 17-6, it was evident that Oswego played together as a team. Oswego had seven different goal scorers against Plattsburgh. Lakers senior Sela Wiley was the top scorer of this contest. Wiley tied her season high of goals with five. Wiley recorded five goals and five assists in the Lakers win over Plattsburgh. While adding five goals against Plattsburgh, Wiley still remains the top scorer for this Oswego team. Wiley also recorded her season high for points against Plattsburgh with 10.
Lakers junior Isabella Lembo netted four goals in their win over Plattsburgh. Lembo now has 38 goals on the season, putting her right behind Wiley on the stat sheet.
On Wednesday, April 19, the Lakers traveled to Buffalo to take on Buffalo State. Oswego won by a score of 16-10. In this high-scoring contest, the Lakers finished with six different scorers on the score sheet. Lakers junior, Julia Quirk, set many season highs for herself against Buffalo State. Quirk netted six goals and had six points, both season-highs. Quirk also recorded her most shots versus Buffalo State, with nine. All nine of Quirk’s Shots were on target. Lakers senior Shae McConnell scored three goals against Buffalo State. With three goals against Buffalo State on Wednesday, McConnell now has tallied over 30 goals this season. Sela Wiley and Isabella Lembo both added to the Laker tally with two goals each.
As for the rest of the season, things are looking bright for this Laker team. Having already clinched a playoff berth, they will be looking to win their final two games of the season so they move up in the standings. Currently the Lakers are third in the SUNYAC conference. With a conference record of 6-1, the Lakers will be looking to win their last two games of the season.
On Saturday, April 22, Oswego will be facing off against Oneonta. On Wednesday, April 26, the Lakers will travel to SUNY Cortland for their last regular season game of the year. Both of these games are very important to the Lakers standings in the SUNYACs. With Cortland as the No.1 seed and Oneonta in a playoff position, winning these last two games will be crucial for the Lakers postseason success.
