Oswego State women’s lacrosse has four-game winning streak snapped

On April 4, the SUNY Geneseo Knights beat the Oswego State women’s lacrosse team. The game took place in Geneseo, and it was the Lakers’ first loss in the conference this season. The final score was 13-8 Knights. The Lakers will now fall to 2-1 in the conference and have a 7-3 record overall.

The Knights started out strong, outscoring the Lakers by a score of 3-1. With 3:15 left, Sela Wiley got the first goal for the Lakers. Wiley scored her 27th goal of the season, which made the score 3-1. With 13:54 left in the second quarter, Shae McConnell scored the second goal for the Lakers. The Knights would go on to score three goals without being answered, giving them a 6-2 lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Knights made their lead even bigger, going up 8-2. However, Julia Quirk scored for the 17th time this season, making the score 8-3. The Knights scored two more goals to make their lead seven, but Katie Fierro helped McConnell score again at the end of the quarter to make it 10-4.

The Lakers played their best in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough for them to win. With 9:51 left, Wiley scored her 28th goal, and Quirk scored with 8:47 left. With 4:14 left in the game, Wiley helped Noelle Smith score her sixth goal of the season. It was 12-8 with 3:47 left in the game when Kiara McKercher got her first goal of the season. The Knights scored one more goal before the game ended and won 13-8.

From a statistical point of view, the Lakers started off strong with 27 shots, putting pressure on the Knights defense right away. The Knights came back with 33 shots of their own and would not give their opponents an inch.

Even though there were a lot of shots, the goalies for both teams made some great saves. The Knights put a lot of offensive pressure on, but goalie Sarah Kamide was quick and skilled enough to make 11 saves.

Both teams had trouble with mistakes during the game. The Lakers and the Knights turned the ball over 16 and 11 times, respectively. The Lakers’ defense was able to clear the ball 15 times out of 18 tries, while the Knights were able to do it 15 times out of 16.

When it came to ground balls, the Knights had more than the Lakers, with 16 compared to 12. The Knights, on the other hand, only won 10 draw controls, while the Lakers got 15 of them.

The Lakers had eight free-throw attempts and the Knights had five. This was also a role in the game, but neither team was particularly good at scoring from free-position shots.

Even though the Lakers lost, there were some positive takeaways from the game. In the fourth quarter, the team showed that they were tough and determined by scoring four goals and cutting the lead. Also, a number of the players did well on their own. Wiley and McConnell each scored two goals, and Quirk and Smith each scored one goal. Wiley also had one helper, and McConnell had one, too.

When they play the SUNY Potsdam Bears in their next game, the Lakers will need to work on their defense. Giving up 13 goals in one game is never a good thing, and the Lakers will need to tighten up their defense to make sure it does not happen again. The team will also need to improve how accurately they shoot. Even though the Lakers had 13 shots on goal, they only scored on eight of them. If they can get better at scoring, they will have a better chance of winning their next game.

The last time the Lakers played the Bears, they put on a show. The Lakers won by a score of 19-10 thanks to a strong offensive effort from six different players.

The Lakers’ loss to SUNY Geneseo ended their three-game winning streak, but they still have a 7-3 record for the season. In their next game, on Friday, April 7, against the Bears, they will try to get back on track. This game will be in Potsdam, and the Lakers will try to make their SUNYAC record 3-1. The game is set to start at 3 p.m.
