Men’s lacrosse looks to bounce back after rough end to 2022 season

The Oswego State men’s lacrosse team is getting set to open up their season with a win when they face Hartwick College on Feb. 25.

Last season, the Lakers were in great position to make a playoff run with four games remaining on the schedule. The Lakers went on to lose the last four games of the season, each to SUNYAC conference opponents.

The Lakers still ended the season over .500 with a record of 8-6, but finished 3-4 in the SUNYAC conference.

The Lakers are returning their highest point getter, senior Gavin Elston, for this season. Last season, Elston finished with 53 points on 39 goals and 14 assists. Head coach Andrew Daly can run his offense through the spark plug as the Lakers try to improve their SUNYAC play.

The Lakers also return Corey O’Connor and Liam Sexton, two other point producers from last year’s squad. O’Connor started in 13 of the Lakers 14 games last season, tallying 32 points, the fourth most on the team, on 14 goals and 18 assists, which were the second most on the team.

Sexton comes into this season coming off a 26-point season where he scored 16 goals and collected 10 assists.

The Lakers however lost both Weston Gray and Ryan Eccles who both tied for second on the team with 39 points each. Gray came in second on the team in goals as well with 28 while also tallying 11 assists.

Eccles collected his 39 points on 21 goals and 18 assists last season.

The Lakers do not play a SUNYAC conference matchup until a month into the season on March 25 against SUNY Brockport.
