The Oswego State men’s and women’s track and field teams both participated in the Brockport Multi & Invitational.
The women’s team finished in eighth place out of 16 teams, recording 18 points on the day. Lakers sophomore, Faith Coyle, earned the Lakers ten points by taking first place in the women’s 1-mile race, smashing her personal best time by 15 seconds, finishing with a time of 5:21.88s.
Ellie Decker also posted a new personal record while finishing in fifth place earning the team four points, with a final time of 10:52.91s, 20 seconds better than her original best. Decker earned four points for her placement.
Christina Gaskievicz also earned four points as she finished in fifth place in the women’s 5000m run. Gaskievicz finished the race with a time of 19:34.62s.
The men’s team did not have as much success, finishing in 11th place out of 16 teams, tallying 16 total points.
Nathan Couse was able to record his own personal record in Brockport, finishing in second place in the 3000m race with a time of 9:02.49s, beating his record by eight seconds. He also earned half of the men’s team’s points, collecting eight of the 16 points for his second place finish.
The Lakers also got an important four points as the men placed seventh in the Distance Medley. Matthew Pietzak, Thomas Mahunik, Dairo Reyes and Henry Rose completed the medley in 12:06.37s.
Henry Rose also participated in the 5000m run, where he finished in seventh place, collecting two more points for the Lakers.
The Lakers are set to head back to Rochester Institute of Technology for their next meet, after having traveled there on Jan. 28. During that meet, the Lakers collected multiple top-3 finishes, including Coyle’s victory in the women’s 1000m run and Nathan Couse’s first place finish in the men’s 3000m run.
Oswego State also had Joy McClinton finish in third place in the 60-meter dash final, as well as Matthew Pietzak’s top-3 finish in the 800m run.
The Lakers will look to replicate the Jan. 28 performance at RIT on Feb. 10, as they will also look to bounce back from the Brockport Invitational.
