Oswego State men’s basketball took down the Clarkson University Golden Knights away from home on Oct. 15 by a score of 94-69.
The Lakers started off the game hot going on a 17-4 run behind a blitz of four perfect three pointers from senior guard Devin Green. In the first half in general Oswego State was excellent from beyond the arc, shooting 70%. Despite the quick start, Clarkson would progressively work themselves back into the game over the course of the half. Little by little, the Golden knights would scrape the lead back to within five by halftime.
In the second half, a full team performance would see the Lakers break away from their counterparts. Oswego State’s defense played a big role in the half as they held the Golden Knights to 29 points on 30.3% shooting compared to their 40 points on 51.6% shooting in the prior. The Lakers offense was also firing on all cylinders after the break as they would go on a 10-2 run just before the mid-way point of the half and then would finish the game on a 17-8 run.
Statistics told the same story of a dominant Oswego State win. Four Lakers, all of whom were starters, finished with double-digit points in the game. Green carried his great performance in the first half throughout the game as he finished with 23 points. Fellow senior and forward Jamal Achille would finish with 18 points and 7 rebounds while guards Jeremiah Sparks and Ahkee Anderson tallied up 26 points combined between the two. The only starter to not reach the double-digit mark was forward Cartier Bowman who finished with eight points but also cleaned up the boards with 11 rebounds. Meanwhile Clarkson only had two players, senior Ryan Miles-Ferguson and junior Frankie Rainville, reach double digits.
With the win, Oswego State looks to their next game against Nazareth College on Nov. 22 in Rochester. The game against the Golden Flyers has been on the radar of several of the Lakers as their matchup last year was one of two regular season games they lost.
