The Oswego State men’s and women’s cross country teams struggled in their SUNYAC championship meets.
Although the Lakers hosted the event, the men’s team finished in eighth place out of ten teams, while the women’s team finished in last place out of eight teams. Andrew Deming ran the fastest for the men’s team, finishing his race with a 28:48 time, which put him at 49th place. Faith Coyle finished the fastest for the women’s team with a time of 24:40, which landed her in 19th place.
Christina Gaskievicz was the second Lakers runner to finish for the women’s team with a time of 27:18, she finished in 53rd place overall.
A Lakers runner who finished a few spots behind Deming was Miguel Tineo Reyes, who finished in 54th place with a time of 28:57. Matthew Pietzak finished nine spots lower than him with a final time of 29:33.
The Lakers struggled throughout the fall season, finishing towards the bottom of the standings at majority of their meets.
However, the Lakers fall is not over yet, they still have one more meet on Nov. 12 at the Niagara Regional Championships. The Lakers have one last chance to redeem themselves heading into a long break.
This season has given head coach Juan Martinez a good look at the young runners that are a part of his team, and see who he can rely on going forward.
The Lakers meet in Niagara is another chance for Martinez to see what he has to work with for next season heading into the offseason.
