Resident hockey lovers Abigail Conpropst, Alex Abramovitch and Zac Case will be discussing some of the newly released NHL Reverse Retro jerseys and sharing their differing opinions.
Arizona Coyotes
Abramovitch: Love it. The Coyotes do not have much going for them on the ice, so they might as well look good while they lose. I was expecting more purple in this, but it still looks good regardless.
Conpropst: I love the Kachina Coyote. The Coyote’s regular jersey is one of the best in the league, and their reverse retros are beautiful, too. I love the scenery on the bottom and the colors fit the vibe of the desert as well. This is one of my favorites.
Case: I am not a fan of the logo just being the head. However, I like the added touch to bring in the cactuses on the front of the jerseys at the bottom. The color scheme is just a little bit weird with it being orange to brown. I guess that is what you get when you play on a college campus.
Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Redwings
Conpropst: We put these two jerseys together because they are practically the same. That aside, the design is not that great to begin with. It is very plain with a bunch of horizontal lines. These are just disappointing.
Abramovitch: Whoever designed these did such a lazy job. Did they think we forgot what cities these teams play in? The Red Wings have arguably the best logo in sports and it is nowhere to be found. These two teams are rivals too, it just does not make sense.
Case: So, I am thinking that one person was tasked with designing both of these jerseys and that the teams met together. I literally cannot find a difference between these two kits. I agree with Abramovitch on this one, how do two rivals have the exact same jersey? We could have done so much better.
Dallas Stars
Conpropst: I love the front logo; it should be their permanent one. The tip of the star being the “A” in “Stars” is beautiful. But I am not the biggest fan of the jersey itself. The white strip from one sleeve, across the neck, and down the other sleeve makes the arms seem overly long. The jersey just looks awkward.
Case: I am very in between on this jersey. I have always been into this style of the Stars logo and the era it comes from. But I cannot stand the all-black front. This design reminds me of a jersey you find in Canada for a minor hockey team.
Abramovitch: I am not a huge fan of these, and I love the Star’s regular jerseys as they are. I expected this to be better. The Stars have one of the best-looking logos in the league and could have added a little more flavor to this one. As Case said, I feel like this looks like a peewee hockey team jersey.
New York Islanders
Case: God bless them for bringing back the fisherman logo. This color scheme is perfect for the jersey as I think of the good old days on the island. I really enjoy the slanted lines that wrap around the entire jersey.
Abramovitch: Garbage. I just do not like these at all, and for some reason people (Case) love them. The fisherman logo is the most overrated logo in all of sports, it looks so ugly.
Conpropst: Unlike Abramovitch, I like the fisherman. At the end of the day, it is all about the fans, and I think most Isles enthusiasts love the fisherman. I am not a fan of the diagonal stripe on the bottom (sorry, Case). I think a horizontal line (or waves!) would be better, but it is still a good jersey.
St. Louis Blues
Case: I could probably get behind this design with a few minor changes. I am totally against this shade of yellow and the lines on the sleeves are too much for me. Overall, I love the middle logo for the throwback.
Conpropst: This jersey encapsulates the “retro” style perfectly. It is a lot of yellow, but I think it works. Plus, the logo is a beauty. I am into it.
Abramovitch: I can see people not liking this one, but I personally really like them. The Blues already have a nice-looking logo, and adding more yellow makes it look even better.
Washington Capitals
Conpropst: I am a big fan of these jerseys. It is asymmetrical in the best way, it is not wonky or trying too hard. Plus, the screaming eagle is a look and it perfectly articulates the “retro” vibe.
Case: This is what I needed out of the throwback for the Capitals. I am thinking of NHL 2K7 and this jersey being the best one in the game. I am here for it, end of discussion.
Abramovitch: Absolute throwback right here. Oh my goodness I can just picture a young Alex Ovechkin with his smoked-out visor scoring five goals a game in these. The sentimental value of these is what makes me love them.
