Havens’ Hot Takes: from the News Editor

Any of my friends, family or people who remotely know me know that one of my favorite phrases is “Here me out … I have a hot take.” I pride myself on having a long list of unpopular opinions, covering a variety of topics.

As a child, I could never bring myself to enjoy things that other people fangirled over. One Direction? Hate them. Justin Bieber? Never even considered liking him. The only exception to this rule is Taylor Swift because she is a lyrical genius. Anyways, as I have grown older I have realized that these unpopular opinions have grown and become a part of who I am. Let us jump right into it then.

Starting off strong with eggs. Ew! If you thoroughly enjoy eggs I have some words for you. They are always either slimy or dry. Also they literally come out of a chicken’s butt, think about that weirdo. However, eggs are edible when they have ketchup on them. Listen, I do not make the rules, but eggs with ketchup on them are pretty good.

This brings me to another, but completely unrelated hot take. “The Princess Bride” and “Grease” are both horrible movies. They are literally just sexist. “The Princess Bride” is simply annoying because the leading female protagonist cannot seem to do anything for herself. She just waits around for a man to come save her and do all the fighting for her. Grow up girlfriend, try standing up for yourself! Now let us talk about “Grease.” Danny treats Sandy like garbage for most of the movie. He breaks her heart and is embarrassed to be around her in front of his friends. Yet his perception of her suddenly changes when she changes everything about herself. So you are telling me that you are magically in love with her and it has nothing to do with the fact that she is wearing tight clothes now, sure buddy.

While we are on the topic of movies, I myself am a connoisseur of documentaries. With this being said, nature documentaries are actually really good! I love curling up with a blanket and a good ol’ national parks documentary. You are telling me it does not put a smile on your face to see tiny little otters frolicking in the water? If you have never thought of watching a nature documentary to relax before bed then give it a try and let me know how you feel.

Lastly, possibly the hottest take of all, I am a firm believer that Christmas music should be listened to all year. I know that no one agrees with me on this stance. However, Christmas music brings me cheer regardless of the time of year. If I am having a bad day, I just turn on some Nat King Cole and my heart is suddenly filled with warmth. I do not make other people listen to Christmas music with me before November, but I also do not want to be judged for listening to it on my own.

I have an endless amount of these hot takes, so let us know if you want to hear more. Also, if you strongly disagree with one of my takes, tell me! I would love to see someone write an opinion article challenging one of my takes.
