The Oswego State men’s soccer team dropped a nonconference match to Hamilton College Wednesday evening by a score of 2-0. The Lakers controlled in the first half but were unable to get a ball past Continentals goalkeeper Ben Ziegler who finished the home opener with a clean sheet.
Pregame:
- The Lakers enter with an overall record of 1-1-0 after splitting the weekend. Oswego State comes off a 4-1 victory on Sunday.
- Hamilton College kicks off their 2022 campaign this afternoon.
First Half:
- The Continentals started with control and possession, pressuring the Lakers defense.
- Oswego State established their game around the the 10′ mark. Possession went to back and forth play.
- The Lakers with a chance that developed in the midfield. The shot went over the bar.
- Both defensive lines were strong in pushing off the counter attacks.
- By the 27′ mark, the Lakers started frustrating the Continentals and got a few key direct free kicks. No result from Oswego State off the chances.
- Possession shifted into Oswego State’s favor halfway through the half. Led to a few free kicks in the second part of the half.
- Hamilton College lead in corners at halftime but the Lakers squad was able to push back and defend on the set pieces.

Second Half:

- HAMILTON COLLEGE: Luke Peplowski @ 63:22 from Luke Ehrenfreund
- HAMILTON COLLEGE: Charles Hawthorn @ 66:47 from Luke Peplowski
- Oswego State continued where the team left off with their first corner of the game coming in the first few minutes of play in the new half.
- D’Arpino made 2 saves within minutes of each other. A small surge from Hamilton College lead to some offense.
- Captain Caleb Munski with a huge block infront of D’Arpino after a miss que from the defense. The Lakers were able to defend the corner.
- By the 60′ mark, possession went completely to the Continentals. The Oswego State defense was able to hold off chances.
- Luke Peplowski was able to connect off the cross from Luke Ehrenfreund. Hamilton put one behind D’Arpino to open up the scoring.
- The Lakers would answer with a corner of their own. A connection on the set piece but an easy save from Ben Ziegler.
- Charles Hawthorn snuck through the backline and found the twine after a pass from Peplowski. The lead was extended with 20 minutes to play.
- Oswego State with a corner in the final 10 minutes. A connection off the corner but the ball went wide.

Post-game:
After settling into the contest, Oswego State controlled possession for the majority of the first half. The Lakers were not able to get a ball past Ben Ziegler and the Hamilton College defense. The Continentals took over the pace of play in the 2nd half and was able to capitalize by the time the final buzzer sounded. The Lakers defense and Matt D’Arpino were able to push off a majority of opportunities from the Hamilton College offense.
A Look Ahead:
Oswego State will take a couple days to refresh and prepare for a trip down Interstate 81 to take on nonconference opponent Ithaca College. The Lakers take on the Bombers Sunday, Sept. 11th at 1:00 p.m. in Ithaca, New York.
