The Oswego State women’s soccer team continued their dominating start to the 2022 campaign with a 7-0 final against the SUNY Canton Kangaroos. The Lakers were able to get 6 goals in the second half to push ahead. Over the course of the contest, 6 different Lakers were able to find the twine as the offense continued to shine.
Pregame:
- Oswego State heads into the contest with a 1-0 record after a win Thursday night against Cazenovia College. The 7-0 victory featured plenty of offensive positives.
- SUNY Canton enters the match with a 0-1 record after dropping their season opener to SUNY Potsdam.
- Oswego State has never given up a goal to the SUNY Canton squad after 3 previous meetings between the two programs.
First Half:

- SUNY CANTON: Skylar Williams (10 saves on 13 shots)
- Graisa Madden had with a solid cross to Katie Delgrosso but the header went wide.
- The Lakers got their first corner kick of the afternoon early. Luigina Serrao was unable to connect the header on target.
- Delgrosso with a few more chances, most have been off target off the start.
- Serrao with a nice move around the defender and barely misses the top corner.
- The ‘Triple Threat’ of Delgrosso, Serrao, and Madden continues to pressure on the offensive side of the ball. The three players have combined for a few chances, none making contact.
- Skylar Williams became the highlight of the half, making countless stops for the Roos.
- Madden had a 1-on-1 opportunity with 19 minutes remaining. Williams would make the stop and keep the game even.

- The Lakers continue to dominate the pace of play with possession to start the second half.
- Oswego State able to catch the Roos defense with some foul trouble. Serrao was able to go to the line and put one pass Williams.
- The Lakers found another goal a little over a minute later off the foot of Madden. That’s her 3rd of the season.
- Katie Delgrosso opened up the flood gates with a tally close to the 5 minute mark after Serrao’s penalty kick. Delgrosso would also find her 3rd of the season.
- Brianna Winkler was able to connect with the twine after a pass from Phyllis Reed. The shot went in the low right corner to extend the Lakers lead. That is Winkler’s 2nd of the game and of the season.
- Another first would come from Lauren O’Connell as the sophomore bended the ball into the net off a corner kick. The sophomore tallied her first collegiate goal in her second year with the program.
- The nail in the coffin came in the 82nd minute as Andrea Hernandez scored her second career goal and first of the season. Charlotte Faulkner got credit with the assist, her first collegiate point.
- In the final minutes, SUNY Canton had an offensive push that was shutdown by freshman goaltender Brianna Urquhart. Her first collegiate save and the only save necessary today from the Oswego State goaltending group.
Post-game:
The Lakers were able to come away with another 7-0 result. The offense was on display this afternoon. 6 different scorers from the Oswego State group. A few of those also becoming off the bench. The ‘Triple Threat’ made headlines today as the front 3, Delgrosso, Serrao, and Madden all found the back of the net. Those three returners continue to lead the way in the offensive columns. Brianna Winkler and Lauren O’Connell both scored their first collegiate goals in a Lakers uniform this afternoon.
A Look Ahead:
The Lakers set their sights on Houghton University for another nonconference matchup. Oswego State will head on the road Tuesday, Sept. 6th for a 5:00 p.m. start in Houghton, New York.
