The Oswego State field hockey team defeats the Houghton University Highlanders by a score of 5-0. The Lakers were able to find goals in every stanza of the contest while relying on the defensive core and netminder Erica Scheblein to keep the Highlanders off the score sheet.
Pre-game:
- The Lakers head into the game with a 1-0 record after defeating Medaille University last night. The 11-0 final featured plenty of goal scorers, a few with multiple goals.
- Houghton University had their own success against Morrisville State Thursday afternoon with a win to open their regular season. The 3-0 victory came off the stick of Deborah Cross who tallied 2 goals for the Highlanders.
First Quarter:
- GOALS:
- OSWEGO STATE: Megan Delaney (PC) @ 6:35
- Back and forth play to start in this contest. Oswego State with 2 penalty corners in the beginning stages of the game.
- Megan Delaney was able to bury a ball behind Madison Tadusz, Houghton University netminder, on the next penalty corner. That is her 3rd tally of the season.
- Houghton University was able to get 1 penalty corner towards the end of the 1st quarter.

Second Quarter:
- GOALS:
- OSWEGO STATE: Molly Darcy @ 23:24 from Megan Delaney and Kaitlyn Mastracco
- Houghton started to gain possession. No shots coming due to the strength of the Lakers defense.
- Oswego State pushed back on offense. Delaney with another chance in the shooting circle but the shot went wide.
- The Lakers pushing back on offense. A few opportunities but nothing geot by Tadusz.
- Molly Darcy pushed in a shot from Kaitlyn Mastracco on a penalty corner. The sophomore secured her 1st goal of the season.
- Erica Scheblein maked another save in net on a counter attack from the Highlanders.
- In the final minute, the Highlanders got a penalty corner. Scheblein and the Lakers defense were able to push those attacks off.

- Oswego State gained possession time right off the start of the half. Delaney was able to connect with Kacie Simzer in the shooting circle. Simzer put the shot wide on the chance.
- Scheblein continued to add to her save count this afternoon. A split save from the netminder kept the Highlanders off the score sheet.
- Bryleigh Beauchat took a shot that was saved by Tadusz. Freshman Taylin Bauer buried the rebound for her first collegiate goal.

Fourth Quarter:

- OSWEGO STATE: Kaitlyn Ahle @ 46:09 from Megan Delaney
- OSWEGO STATE: Kaitlyn Mastracco @ 58:51 from Kate McNally
- More penalty corners for the Lakers. Some chances but no shots on target for Oswego State.
- Delaney found Kaitlyn Ahle for a clean finish. Ahle adds to her goal total this season and raises the stat to 4 in 2 games this season. The Lakers take a 4-0 lead.
- Houghton University with a penalty corner. Scheblein and the Lakers squad able to keep the ball out of the back of the net.
- A series of penalty corners for Oswego State. Mastracco finds the back of the net off the set piece. The senior records her 2nd goal of the season.

Post Game:
The Oswego State squad was able to get another clean sweep in their second contest of the 2022 season. Erica Scheblein and the Lakers defense records another shutout, pushing their goal differential to 16 goals compared to their opponents. The offense continued to pour on as Oswego State finds 5 different goal scorers this afternoon.
A Look Ahead:
The Lakers were scheduled to take on Wells College on Tuesday, Sept. 6th, but the contest was cancelled. The team will get a week break before preparing for Keuka College on Friday, Sept. 9th. The Lakers host the Wolves for a nonconference matchup at Laker Turf Stadium with a 4:00 p.m. scheduled start.
