Laker Quick Recap: Men’s Lacrosse vs. SUNY Brockport

Pre-game

Oswego State enters the contest on a three-game slide as the Lakers look to lock up a playoff spot for the first time since the 2019 campaign. The Lakers enter the contest with an 8-6 record.
SUNY Brockport can secure the 3 seed with a win this evening at Laker Turf Stadium. The Golden Eagles head into the matchup with a 9-4 record.
Both teams lost their matchups on Wednesday. Oswego State fell to undefeated SUNY Cortland while SUNY Geneseo was able to beat SUNY Brockport.
Today is Senior Night for the Lakers. The team honors Weston Gray and Brendon Scordo.

First Quarter

The Lakers strike first off a shot from Weston Gray. He snags a goal on his senior night.
The Golden Eagles would answer with 4 goals of their own in the late portion of the quarter. Patrick Sheridan would net the first two SUNY Brockport goals.
Both teams making stops on defense. The man advantage not a factor in the opening stanza.

Second Quarter

SUNY Brockport continues their run into the 2nd quarter. Nate Askin nets his first of the contest around 5 minutes into the stanza. The score starting to get out of hand.
The Lakers would match the SUNY Brockport with 2 more goals of their own. Gavin Elston and Ryan Dumont both connect with the twine.

Third Quarter

Oswego State would control the lead after 3 unanswered goals after halftime. Ryan Eccles snags 2 assists on the goals.
The Lakers would get into penalty trouble halfway through the quarter. Jack Delany took a seat for 2 minutes in the sin bin after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty with 7:36 remaining in the stanza. SUNY Brockport would net 3 goals during the man up advantage.
Owen Spearing got the Lakers back on the scoreboard with his first of the season. A quick goal directly after a SUNY Brockport goal gave the Lakers momentum heading into the final stanza.
Aiden Kenyon starting to pick up his play on this side of the halftime break. The netminder may have had a slow start but is controlling the pace of play on defense.

Fourth Quarter

Oswego State would take back the lead to open the final quarter. Elston gets his 3rd goal of the evening to make it a 10-9 score.
The teams would trade goals before the Lakers pulled the lead to 12-10. Cameron Tallman and another from Elston put the Lakers ahead with 7:21 remaining in regulation. Gavin Elston reaches the 30 goal mark.
SUNY Brockport would complete the comeback with three unanswered goals to complete the contest. Rocco Santillo with the game winner in the final minute after a Golden Eagles timeout.

Post-game

The Lakers fall for the 4th straight game. Oswego State loses a close one at home 13-12. This is the second game this season where the Lakers find themselves on the wrong side of a 1 goal margin.
SUNY Brockport clinches the 3rd seed in the SUNYAC post season with tonight’s win. They break the 10-win mark on the season.

End of the Season Honors

Gavin Elston finishes with 53 points (39 G and 14 A). He joins the Midfielder’s 20+ Point Season Club.
Weston Gray finishes with 39 points (28 G and 11 A). He joins the Attackmen’s 35+ Point Season Club.
Ryan Eccles finishes with 39 points (21 G and 18 A). He also joins the Midfielder’s 20+ Point Season Club.
Max Brodman finishes with 26 points (17 G and 9 A). He also joins the Midfielder’s 20+ Point Season Club.

Playoff Picture

Oswego State can make the post season with a SUNY Potsdam win tomorrow against SUNY Oneonta. The Red Dragons are the only team that can could past the Lakers via a tiebreaker if the group can take care of the Bears tomorrow.
SUNY Brockport will face either SUNY Geneseo or SUNY Cortland depending on the results of their game tomorrow afternoon. The 2 teams play in the final regular season game in the conference to decide the number 1 seed in the postseason.
