Oswego State administration plans to refund room, board, broad-based fees

On Saturday, Oswego State administrators Jerri Howland and Nicholas Lyons announced that the college will be refunding students a portion of some of their semesterly fees, including room and board fees and a number of broad-based fees.

While the exact amount of money refunded from each charge is yet to be determined, the administration said they do plan to finalize the process before the end of the spring semester.

“All students will receive prorated refunds or credits for certain other fees for services that have been discounted due to the COVID-19 emergency,” the email from Howland and Lyons read.

There is no plan to refund tuition to students, according to the email, as SUNY administration is expecting all further education for the semester to be completed online.

This move comes after Oswego State’s President Deborah Stanley released a message on Thursday that effectively suspended any expectations to return to normal, on-campus operations by April 13, which was the original expected return date. All further plans are active “until further notice.”

Included in their message to the campus was a plan for moving the rest of the students in residence halls out of their rooms, and allowing students who left campus to collect anything left behind in their rooms.

According to the email, the plan is to allow students to move out over a period of time in May, provided that New York state health authorities permit it. The office of Residence Life and Housing will send out further directives on move-out in the future.
