Oswego State will honor its 13 seniors after the game against SUNY Fredonia, which is battling for a SUNYAC playoff berth, at 7 p.m. at the Marano Campus Center.
Earlier in the year, the Lakers won a nail-biter at the Steele Hall Ice Arena in Fredonia 5-4. After a 4-2 lead for Oswego State, the Blue Devils made it interesting with back-to-back goals in the middle of the third. Tyson Kirkby scored the game-winner on the power play with 41 seconds to go in regulation.
Anthony Passero had a three-point game (1g, 2a) and also recorded his 100th collegiate point, between playing two years at Buffalo State and a year and some change at Oswego State. Kirkby, Derek Brown, Jody Sullivan and Joey Scorpio all recorded goals as well. David Richer made 23 saves in net.
Three Blue Devils had two-point games. Victory Tracy and Jasper Korican-Barlay had a goal and an assist each. Malcolm Arseneau had two assists in the matchup. Jacob Haynes and Ryan Dunner added the last two goals. Anton Rosen played the first two periods of the game, allowing four goals and making 21 saves. Ryan Pascarella played the third period, allowing one goal on 13 shots.
Oswego State went 1-2 on the power play, and went 3-4 on the penalty kill.

OSW: The Senior Class
Why not take the cop-out in this situation? There is not a lot on the line for the Lakers other than going into the playoffs with some momentum. SUNY Fredonia is team with more at stake in this one. But, this is the senior class’s night to recognize their commitment over their four-, three- or two-year careers with Oswego State. These Lakers want to extend their season as much as possible, so going into playoffs ending the regular season with a win will be key. With David Richer as the starter, and 12 seniors playing in general, with the exception of Charlie Pelnik, they want to win.

FRE: Jacob Haynes
The senior is on a 16-game point streak. The last game he did not record a point was on Nov. 29, in a scoreless tie against Curry College. Jacob Haynes has only been held scoreless three times. Once against Plattsburgh State and SUNY Potsdam, as well, beside the game against Curry College. As he makes the final push for the playoffs with SUNY Fredonia, he might be tough to contain for the Oswego State defense.
SUNYAC Update
Here are the standings for the SUNYAC following the action from last night, Friday, Feb. 21. Tonight is the last regular-season game for every team in the league, with the first round of the playoffs coming on Wednesday.

- Oswego State (2) — 23 points (14-9-1 overall, 11-3-1 SUNYAC)
- The College at Brockport (x) — 17 points (15-8-1 overall, 8-6-1 SUNYAC)
- Buffalo State (x) — 15 points (11-11-2 overall, 7-7-1 SUNYAC)
- Plattsburgh State — 12 points (8-13-3 overall, 5-8-2 SUNYAC)
- SUNY Potsdam — 12 points (6-16-2 overall, 5-9-2 SUNYAC)
- SUNY Fredonia — 11 points (7-10-7 overall, 4-8-3 SUNYAC)
- SUNY Cortland — 10 points (12-11-1 overall, 5-10-0 SUNYAC)
- Morrisville State — 10 points (9-15-0 overall, 5-10-0 SUNYAC)
Here is tonight’s SUNYAC schedule:
- SUNY Geneseo plays its last regular-season game against The College at Brockport with a road game at 7 p.m.
- Oswego State hosts SUNY Fredonia for its senior night with puck drop at 7 p.m.
- The College at Brockport stays at home with a game against No. 3 SUNY Geneseo at 7 p.m.
- Buffalo State stays on the road with a game at Alumni Arena against SUNY Cortland with a 5 p.m. game
- Plattsburgh State continues its home-weekend series against Morrisville State with a 7 p.m. game at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena

- SUNY Cortland hosts Buffalo State for a mid-afternoon game at 5 p.m.
- Morrisville State stays in the North Country to finish the weekend series at Plattsburgh State with a 7 p.m. game
Prediction
A lot of the stakes in this game are with SUNY Fredonia, as has been mentioned numerous times in this preview. Oswego State has the second seed clinched for the playoffs. A win for SUNY Fredonia would guarantee a playoff berth, as either the fifth or sixth seed, depending on how Plattsburgh State fares. Either way, the Blue Devils will be on the road for the first round if they win tonight.
With it being Senior Night for the Lakers—including a potentially extended post-game celebration, recognizing all 13 seniors—a win is not necessary, but it is heavily wanted, to send these seniors out with a win at the Marano Campus Center. The positive is that Oswego State has at least one more game at home after clinching the home-ice advantage for the SUNYAC Semifinals. That opponent is to be determined.
This large senior class has been key for the Lakers, who have not had the best season in terms of a win-loss record, according to head coach Ed Gosek. But the leadership has kept the team together.
It is nice, however, that at least David Richer is getting the nod for Senior Night, assuming that it will be Steven Kozikoski for the playoffs, as Gosek has said a few times that it is the sophomore’s net for the rest of the season. It is unknown if the coaching staff will put in Cedric Hansen for Senior Night as well.
The last time these two teams faced each other ended in a chippy contest. The Lakers came out on top with a 5-4 win with 41 seconds to go in the third period, which sparked a lot of extra-curricular shoving after the final buzzer. During the handshake line, players had to be separated by officials with how intense the match has gotten. Even though these teams do not consider each other big rivals (like Oswego State and Plattsburgh State do), these two teams like to make things interesting.
Expect a physical, fast and high-scoring but close game with what is on the line for SUNY Fredonia.
Final prediction: 5-4 Oswego State takes this one, similar to last time.
