Laker Quick Recap: Women’s hockey vs. Buffalo State (Game 3 of 3)
The Oswego State women’s hockey team defeated Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon for the team’s senior day in a 3-2 win. The Lakers are now 14-7-4 (9-4-4 NEWHL) while the Bengals fall to 5-18-0 (3-13-0 NEWHL).
Pre-game
- Rachael Farmer got the nod for the Lakers against Buffalo State
- Bri Gawronski was the starting goaltender for the Bengals.
- The remaining three seniors for the Lakers (Kate Randazzo, Eryn Stewart and Madison Byrne) all started as well.
First Period
- Buffalo State opened scoring exactly a minute into the period about a rebound goal from Jessica Carter that got over the pad of Rachael Farmer. Assists went to Lila Toczek and Tori Fadeley.
- Emma Morisette was called for roughing with 11:37 remaining in the period, giving the Bengals the first power play opportunity of the game. The penalty was killed.
- Sara Cruise and Tristin Stetson were both called for two-minute roughing minors with 4:27 remaining in the period.
- Morgan Shines got a deflection goal at 15:45 of the second period off the shot from Kate Randazzo. The secondary assist went to Megan Teachout. 1-1 game.
- Lila Toczek was called for diving with 3:52 remaining in the period, giving the Lakers a 4-on-3 penalty kill for 1:43.
- END 1: Oswego State and Buffalo State finished period tied 1-1.
Second period
- With 14:33 left in the period, Cheyenne Matson was called for a two-minute interference minor. The penalty was killed by the Bengals.
- Eryn Stewart gave the Lakers a 2-1 lead at 10:20 of the middle period with a shot from the top of the circle that got past Bri Gawronski. Megan Teachout recorded her second assist of the night.
- Ky Lackey committed a holding minor with 9:16 remaining in the period. The Bengals also killed that penalty to keep the game at a one-goal deficit.
- END 2: Oswego State leads Buffalo State 2-1.
Third period
- With 10:50 remaining in the period, Cheyenne Matson was given a two-minute minor for tripping.
- Emily Gustafson got a rebound goal past Gawronski at 9:28 on the power play. Assists to Eryn Stewart and Philomena Teggart. Lakers lead 3-1.
- Emily Gustafson (roughing) and Lila Toczek (holding) were goth given two-minute minors with 9:56 remaining in the period.
- Natasha Steinle got a shot off in the middle of the circle over the shoulder of Rachael Farmer with 8:28 remaining in the regulation period. Buffalo State trails 3-2 again. The goal was unassisted.
- With about 1:30 left in the period, Bri Gawronski went to the bench for the empty skater.
Post-game
- Oswego State is now 14-6-4 (9-4-4 NEWHL) and faces SUNY Canton next Saturday, Feb. 22.
- Buffalo State falls to 5-18-0 (3-13-0 NEWHL) and has a weekend series against SUNY Cortland on Friday and Saturday.
