Laker Gameday Preview: Women’s hockey vs. Buffalo State (Game 3 of 3)

The Oswego State women’s hockey team will be back in the Marano Campus Center this afternoon to take on Buffalo State for the second game in a row. Last night, the Lakers won their fourth game in a row after defeating the Bengals 3-1.

Keys to the Game

Oswego State

The penalty kill will be the key to Oswego State beating Buffalo State tonight. Last night, the Lakers went on the penalty kill six times and gave up one power play goal. We could see the team be more disciplined tonight, but if tonight is a repeat of yesterday with going to the penalty box, they will need to rely on their strong penalty kill and aggressive forecheck.

Buffalo State

Scoring early will be the key to Buffalo State leaving Oswego with a win. This is going to be a huge key for the Bengals to have a repeat of last night’s game. If the Bengals can score in the first five minutes of the game it will have a huge shift in momentum.

Shots (Per Game)

OSW: 717 (31.2)
BUF: 522 (23.7)

Players to Watch

Oswego State: Megan Teachout

Teachout is coming off a game where she was able to score on the power play, making it her second game in a row for the Lakers. The leading scorer for the Oswego State has been sensational offensively for her team. We should expect her to create plenty of scoring chances for herself tonight.

Buffalo State: Angelina Cruzal

The sophomore forward is coming off of a game where she was able to score a late power play goal for the Bengals. If Buffalo State can have more opportunities on the power play similar to last night against the Lakers, then Cruzal should see plenty of ice time.

Final Thoughts

Tonight is Senior Night for Oswego State. Even though coaches and seniors said they will go into this game with the same mentality they do for every game, we could still see a big game for the four seniors. Add that to the Lakers playing great hockey recently and they should be the favorites in tonight’s game.
