Laker Quick Recap: Men’s hockey at The College at Brockport

In a Saturday afternoon matchup, the Oswego State men’s hockey team tied to The College at Brockport 2-2. The Lakers move to 11-8-1 (8-2-1 SUNYAC), while the Golden Eagles are now 13-7-1 (6-5-1 SUNYAC).

Pre-game

  • Steven Kozikoski (3-0-0) got the nod to start his fourth straight game, after taking over for both David Richer and Cedric Hansen.
  • Matt Schneider (9-5-0) started his 18th game of the season for the Golden Eagles.
  • Oswego State starting five: Michael Gillespie – Josh Zizek – Travis Broughman; Carter Allen – Carson Vance

1st Period

  • Ethan Solat opened scoring for the Golden Eagles off a breakaway, getting through two defenders, and getting the puck through the five-hold of Steven Kozikoski with 15:20 remaining in the period. 1-0 The College at Brockport.
  • Jody Sullivan was called for a two-minute tripping minor with 12:17 remaining in the period for the first penalty of the game. The penalty was killed with no goal.
  • With 3:14 left in the period, Corey Tam got called for hooking giving the Lakers their first power play of the game. The goal was unassisted.
  • Alex DiCarlo scored at 17:04 on the power play, with assists from Michael Gillespie and Josh Zizek. Tie game 1-1.
  • Ryan Romeo sent The College at Brockport to the penalty kill for a second time, after a boarding call at 17:43. Oswego State could not get its second goal of the game.

  • Despite going down in the first period after taking a puck into the leg, Broughman opened up scoring in the second period at 3:52 after a rebound goal to give the Lakers a 2-1 lead. Gillespie had the assist.
  • Jody Sullivan was called for a slashing penalty with 15:16 remaining in the middle period. The Golden Eagles were not able to capitalize on the power play.
  • Robert Flannery capitalized on a turnover in the slot to tie the game with 59.8 left in the period. The assist went to Kevin Mainello.
  • END 2: Oswego State and The College at Brockport tied 2-2.
