Laker Gameday Preview: Women’s hockey vs. SUNY Potsdam (Game 3 of 3)

The Oswego State women’s hockey team is back in action this afternoon against SUNY Potsdam. The Lakers are coming off of a 2-0 loss to Morrisville State, while the Bears defeated Buffalo State 3-2 last night.

Keys to the Game

Oswego State

Limiting turnovers will be the key to Oswego State winning this afternoon. Last night the Lakers turned the puck over frequently and  it resulted in the team’s offense struggling throughout the game. If the Lakers can just slow things down by making some quick and simple passes then it will greatly benefit their offense.

SUNY Potsdam

Staying out of the penalty box will be the key to SUNY Potsdam leaving Oswego with a win. The last time the Bears played the Lakers they found themselves in the penalty box six times. If SUNY Potsdam can played a more disciplined game this afternoon and not end up in the penalty box then they have a good chance at winning.

Players to Watch

Oswego State: Amber Thomas

The junior forward for the Lakers has been very quiet offensively in the last two games. The last time Thomas scored was against SUNY Potsdam so we should expect her to get plenty of offensive opportunities. This afternoon is a great chance for one of Oswego State’s top scorers to have a bounce back game.

SUNY Potsdam: Natalie Wasielewski

Wasielewski is coming off of a game where she registered one assist for the Bears. SUNY Potsdam’s leading scorer will look to be more involved in the team’s offense this afternoon, especially since she scored two power play goals against Oswego State the last time these two teams faced off.

Final Thoughts

It’s very tough to tell which way this game is going to go for the Lakers. In the past they have bounced back from games where they struggled to score, but recently that has not been the case for the Lakers. SUNY Potsdam should be the favorites to win this game. However, we should not be surprised if we see a more aggressive offensive Oswego State team this afternoon.
