Laker Gameday Preview: Women’s Hockey vs. SUNY Potsdam (Game Two of Three)
The Oswego State women’s hockey team is set for an afternoon matchup against SUNY Potsdam, coming off of a game against SUNY Cortland that ended in a tie. SUNY Potsdam its last game 5-2 against SUNY Canton and will look to get its fourth straight win.
Keys to the Game
Oswego State
Faceoffs will be the key to Oswego State leaving Potsdam with a win. The Bears have not allowed more than two goals in their previous three games and has really started to click defensively as a team. The Lakers must take advantage of every faceoff they get in order to have as many opportunities as they can against a strong defensive team, especially draws in the offensive zone.
SUNY Potsdam
The power play will be the key to SUNY Potsdam getting a win this afternoon. The last time these two teams faced off, the Lakers were the team that took advantage of opportunities on the powerplay. If the Bears can capitalize on the woman advantage, their home ice advantage will be used to full effect.

Players to Watch
Oswego State: Megan Teachout
Teachout is coming off a game where she registered a goal and an assist. Given that the freshman skater has been one of the most productive scorers for the Lakers with eight goals and gets plenty of scoring opportunities, expect her heavy involvement in the offense to continue this afternoon.
SUNY Potsdam: Miranda Kolb
Kolb is coming off a game where she was able to score on the power play for the Bears. Being second on the team in scoring, the senior skater will need to have a big game offensively against Oswego State in order for her team to win this afternoon. Expect to see Kolb \ involved in the offense and get plenty of scoring chances if the Lakers cannot contain her.
Final Thoughts
This game looks to be a very tight scoring game, as both teams have solid defensive units. As previously mentioned, SUNY Potsdam has won three straight games to move up to a record of 8-8 and will look to continue its second half surge against Oswego State. The Lakers did not commit a single penalty in their previous game against SUNY Cortland, and if they can continue to play a very strong disciplined game, it will only help the team finish this game with a bounce back win.
