Laker Gameday Preview: Men’s basketball vs. Nazareth College

The Oswego State Lakers will be facing a visit from the 3-0 Nazareth College Golden Flyers. The Lakers are fresh off a three-game win streak and will be looking to extend that streak to four with a win today against Nazareth College

The Golden Flyers are coming off a three-game win streak and stand similarly to the Oswego Lakers. The Lakers have just recently won the Max Ziel Tournament, and that strong start to the season matches the Lakers’ strong play within these there first three games. The team exhibited a strength while defending the three-point line. This most evident in their last game against Clarkson University, which they held to 9-27 (33 percent) shooting from the three-point line.

On the offensive end, the Lakers are thriving while shooting from the three-point line with the likes of sharpshooters Quinn Carey and Brandan Gartland. In Oswego State’s last game against Clarkson University, which the Lakers won 80-60, the two players shot a combined 17-35 (48.6 percent) from the three-point.

The Lakers are expected to carry over their hot shooting performance from their last three games into today’s game against the Golden Flyers. Gartland, Carey and Tim Marshall will continue their great shooting and in result open up opportunities for their teammates at the rim. The Lakers have showcased some strong team chemistry and a balanced scoring attack with more than two players scoring in double figures in all of their games so far this season. The bench has also been an integral part of their strong play with freshman guard Julien Crittendon averaging 11.3 points per game off the bench, in addition to the strong play from Marshall off the bench.

Nazareth College will be coming into today’s game after winning 81-68 against the Medaille College Mavericks. Players Jake Burgio, who scored 20 points, and Tyler Stenglein, who scored 23 points, led the team in scoring. Although Nazareth won the game they only shot 3-14 (21.4 percent) from the three-point line. This weakness in their game will surely playout in the Lakers’ favor in today’s game.

Prediction

The Lakers will this game in a similar fashion they have won their last three games. The strong shooting performances will carry over into this game with the Lakers winning the game 85-68.
