Oswego State hall director reassigned after ticket for unlawful possession of marijuana
Thomas Kelly, 26, former residence hall director for Cayuga Hall, was ticketed for unlawful possession of marijuana, at 3 a.m. on March 16 on State Route 104, according to a New York State arrest report provided by Wayne Westervelt, chief communications officer at Oswego State.
After the incident, Kelly was reassigned within Residence Life and Housing and removed from his apartment in Cayuga Hall. Reid Adler, the former assistant hall director, has been named acting hall director.
According to the report, Kelly appeared normal during the traffic stop, and the marijuana in his vehicle was found without a search warrant. Kelly was also ticketed for failure to activate his headlights. He was given an appearance ticket with his first court date scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on April 2 at the Oswego Town Court.
At his court meeting on April 2, Kelly was assigned a public defender and his next court date was scheduled.
No other people were in the vehicle when Kelly was stopped by a University Police officer, and the victim was listed on the report as “society,” as the possession of marijuana is considered a crime against society by the state of New York.
The Oswego State administration did not provide comment.
“SUNY Oswego does not comment or publicly discuss personnel matters,” Westervelt said.
