Lakers Game Day Preview: men’s hockey at Morrisville State

The Rundown

Tonight will be the first of two consecutive meetings between the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs and the No. 4/5 Oswego State Lakers that will take place in Morrisville this weekend. The Lakers are coming off a win and a tie last weekend while the Mustangs are coming off two straight wins on home ice over the SUNY Potsdam Bears.

Storylines

David Richer will receive another start tonight, which will be his sixth in a row. Last weekend, he allowed four goals on 47 total shots.

Senior captain Mitch Herlihey is eight points away from hitting 100 for his career, which would make him the only Laker on the current roster to reach the milestone.

Defenseman Kristoffer Brun is out with a wrist injury for a sustained period, leaving Oswego State with only six defenseman for this weekend series.

Players to Watch

OSW- Mitch Herlihey

Herlihey will have a prime opportunity to boost his point total this weekend against a weaker opponent in SUNY Morrisville. The senior will have his best chance to approach the 100 point club for the remainder of the season this weekend if he is able to have a strong showing.

MOR- Aidan Conolly

The freshman defender has been a standout for the Mustangs so far this season with nine points in 19 contests and presents a problem for Oswego State defenders with his offensive prowess.

Prediction

Oswego State is constantly hovering around the top of the SUNYAC and the Mustangs… do not. This is a classic example of a trap game, especially on the road, but Oswego State has so much more talent to employ than SUNY Morrisville that the environment should not play any role in the result. This game is no guarantee for the Lakers, but this should be an easy win if they play their game.

Oswego State wins 6-1.
