The first period was quiet for both sides, but more so for the Red Dragons. The Lakers finished off the period with 11 shots, while SUNY Cortland was held shotless.

Andrea Noss had an early 2-on-1 chance with Julieann White. Noss kept it for herself but hit the corner of the crossbar with 16:40 left in the first period. Olivia Ellis also had a confrontation with the post with 13:45 left in the opening period.

Sarah Grupp and Jean-Marie Padden also had chances throughout the period, as well. But no Laker could break Rachael Farmer in the opening twenty minutes.

At 10:55, Eva Kristof of the Red Dragons was called for interference. The Lakers’ power play was unsuccessful but had three shots during the man-advantage.

At :49 and 2:46, both Laura Thacker and Padden had early chances, respectively. They still could not break Rachael Farmer.

At 3:36, Sarah Grupp scored the first goal of the game. Philomena Teggart and Emma Morisette had the assists, after a pass right in front of the crease. Grupp was able to lift it over the pads of Farmer for the 1-0 lead.

With 13:05 left in the middle period, Emma Morisette was called for tripping, sending the Lakers on their first penalty kill. 1:11 later in the kill, Victoria Rankin was also called for tripping placing the Lakers at a 5-on-3 man disadvantage. Both penalties were killed by Oswego State.

With 5:22 left in the period, Ellis has another chance on the backhand but was shoved away by Farmer to keep the game at 1-0.

Claire McCarthy of SUNY Cortland was called for holding at 15:19 of the second period. The Red Dragons killed the penalty, with the Lakers producing no shots on goal during the man-advantage.

With 19:20 of the third period, Noss and White had a similar opportunity to the first period, and came away with the same result – no goal. White was not able to get her stick on the puck right in front of the crease.

At 1:26 of the regulation period, Ellis came away with a rebound slapshot to take a 2-0 lead over the Red Dragons. Victoria Blake had the original shot to be credited with the lone assist on the goal.

With 15:42 left in the period, Katelinn Cummings went to the box for a hooking call. Oswego State went on their third power play of the night. With 28 seconds left in the power play, Kolb had a shorthanded goal on the breakaway. It went over Samonek’s shoulder. The Red Dragons would kill the penalty as well.

With 11:09 left, Farmer made a huge save to deny Ellis of her second goal. She lunged to the side to block the empty net on the wraparound.

At 10:02 of the third period, Oswego State was called for an icing sending the puck back to their zone. It would come to no avail for the Red Dragons, with the Lakers immediately taking possession back.
