Lakers Game Day Preview vs. SUNY Canton

Looking back

No. 9 Oswego State has a huge opportunity tonight to find their identity. After an eight-day layoff, the Lakers return home tonight to face the SUNY Canton Roos. After getting back in the win column last Friday on the road at SUNY Cortland, the Lakers will be looking to stay on track against the Roos. SUNY Canton currently owns a record of 1-2-0 and are not typically considered a threat to Oswego State, but this Roos team has the potential to pull off an upset. On Oct. 28, SUNY Canton went on the road to then-No. 12 Plattsburgh State and beat them in their own arena, a feat that can not be overlooked. Following a home and home with SUNY Potsdam last weekend where they dropped both games, the Roos will be looking to get back to the high point they reached when knocked off the Cardinals.

History

SUNY Canton men’s hockey has never beaten Oswego State since they became a Div. III program to start the 2013-14 season. Through seven contests played in their history, the Lakers have remained perfect against the Roos.

CAN-

Players to Watch

OSW- Cedric Hansen

Two weeks ago, Hansen received his first collegiate start against Hobart College. The sophomore goaltender was credited with the 2-1 loss despite a strong performance. A storyline to watch in tonights game will be how confident Hansen after getting his first start out of the way.

Can- Josh Sova

For the last time in his career, Sova will be playing at Marano Campus Center with SUNY Canton. This is significant because Sova was born and raised in Oswego. The senior has never scored against the Lakers in his career, but has come out on fire to start this season with four points in three games. His lone goal this season came in the upset win over Plattsburgh State.

Tale of the Tape

Prediction

The Lakers have never lost to SUNY Canton, and do not expect tonight to be the end of that streak. Oswego State has the talent advantage over the Roos and when combined with the quality effort always exhibited by Lakers teams, they should be able to withstand the upset scare.

Final score: 6-4 Oswego State.
