Lakers Game Day Preview vs Hobart College

Last Night

The No. 9/10 Statesmen had the night off after losing Friday night in a heartbreaking fashion to Elmira College in overtime. Oswego State rolled past the same Elmira College team last night on home ice 4-2. Earlier in the weekend, ranked teams like Plattsburgh State and Norwich University took losses, so today’s contest will be a chance for both of these teams to prove why they deserve to rise in the polls.

Momentum

The Lakers handled a Soaring Eagles team who bested Hobart College just a night earlier, which should give Oswego State a mental edge. Both teams will have much to prove to be considered legitimate threats.

Players to Watch

OSW- Josh Zizek

The sophomore had the best game of his Laker career last night, with a hat-trick. After matching his entire freshman total in one game, it will be interesting to see if the former Nepean Raider can follow up his performance and solidify himself as a consistent scorer.

HOB- Cam Shaheen

Shaheen, a junior, scored on Friday against Elmira College. After averaging 10 points a season in his first two campaigns, his experience combined with some confidence could give the Statesmen a new scorer.

First Chance

It is interesting to note that today will mark the first start in Cedric Hansen’s Laker career. After playing in just two periods last year, the former Gloucester Ranger will have his first opportunity to show what he can do in a starting role.

The offense remains unchanged from yesterday’s lineup, but there are changes in net and on the blueline. Cedric Hansen will get the nod today, as Coach Gosek stuck to his word from last weekend that the Hansen and David Richer would split the weekend. After Richer allowed two goals last night, Hansen could boost his standing on the depth chart with a strong performance today. On defense, Charlie Pelnik subs in for Chris MacMillan. It is interesting that Gosek chose MacMillan to sit, being that he has stood out through two games so far as a bright spot for the Lakers defensive corps.
