Campus Recreation Report: 3 sports in midst of regular-season action

Flag Football made its return in this week’s campus recreation report, while soccer and softball continues going strong hitting the tail end of week two play.

In the first round of competition, flag football is officially back with a weekend filled with high-scoring thrillers, comeback victories and a couple of ties. Kicking things off, we start with the men’s competitive 7v7 league, Pylon Pythons taking on Sexy Touchdowns. Sexy Touchdown’s took an early leading going into halftime up 20-0, not giving Pylon Pythons any breathing room. Sexy Touchdowns held on to their lead and came out on top, 26-6.

Moving on to later in the day, Team Pheonix taking on Townies at Lee Hall Field. Both teams put up a good fight right into the half, Team Pheonix taking a 14-6 lead. Both teams going strong in the second half of the game, Townies lead 20-14. In the final minutes of the game, Team Phoenix charging up the field to get in the end zone for the score. Making the score 20-20, and ending the game in a tie.

In the Co-Rec league, Show me your TD’s is 2-0, starting off the season with two impressive wins over their opponents 17-7 and 44-9. The Oneida Otters are looking to come back from their loss against Show me your TD’s to help improve their record to 2-1 on the season.

Intramural soccer started off red hot. The Super Strikers took on Slide Tackling Your DMs in men’s competitive play, and despite only having seven players for the whole game, Super Strikers won the game 6-2, thanks to two goals from Will Beresford.

Moving forward to co-rec play on Sept. 13, and the highest scoring game of the week, ChurchGroup PutinBallAway took on NARP Life, and safe to say this was a fast-paced game. Both teams totaled for 12 goals, but in the end ChurchGroup PutinBallAway would come out victorious with a final score of 8-4. Kevon Cambridge was responsible for five of the team’s eight goals.

Softball also in competition, showcasing some nail-bitters of games. Ball Busters and Blazin’ Jays taking the field in the co-rec competitive league. In just four innings of play, Blazin’ Jays outscored the Ball Busters in a 14-1 final, while showing immaculate team work and their drive for their sport.

While team Jason Giambi took on Hepatitis C-Ya Later in the men’s competitive league, in one of the closest games of the week. Both teams came up scoreless in the first two innings, but then both teams caught fire scoring a run in the next three, Jason Giambi pulled ahead in the fifth inning, winning 4-3.
