Offense

Lesser-used underclassmen such as Tyson Bruce, Josh Zizek, TJ Sneath and Cameron Berry made their way into the lineup tonight, with Zizek nabbing his first regular season goal in an Oswego State uniform.

“We know the morning of, other than that we just set goals for every game, and make sure that everyone works hard.” sophomore forward Cameron Berry said.

“We put some new guys in tonight, with four changes up front…” coach Gosek said “From a consistency standpoint, having the ability to roll four lines, we were very pleased with the energy.”

The third line of Joey Davies, Josh Zizek, and Mitch Emerson were the stars of the first period, with Davies and Zizek getting points on the Lakers’ second goal.

The Lakers had eight different goal scorers tonight, and seven of them came from the offense.

Matt Galati came into tonight’s game with 96 career points and pushed his total to 99 with a tally and two helpers on the evening.

The game’s first star, Andrew Barton, scored the Lakers’ third goal of the evening on a broken play via a slow wrist shot from the bottom of the right circle.

“I kind of just shot it on net, that’s all there was to it.” Barton said.

Defense

Charlie Pelnik took advantage of his return to the lineup by proving he can be a strong physical presence, recording two blocked shots, as well as two penalties.

Rutkowski quarterbacked the Lakers 7th goal, with his point shot being knocked down by Joey Davies and easily tapped in to boost the Oswego lead to 6. This was Rutkowski’s first point in an Oswego State uniform during a regular season game.

Stephen Johnson paced Oswego State with eight shots tonight, including the Lakers’ eighth goal of the night with 39 seconds remaining in the game.

The defensive pairs were tinkered with again tonight, with Chris Raguseo playing with Chris Macmillan and Pelnik being paired with Kristoffer Brun.

MacMillan was +5 tonight with three total shots on the evening.

Goalie

David Jacobson started tonight’s game, continuing the Friday/Saturday splitting of games with Matt Zawadzki.

Jacobson made a total of twelve saves over two periods, only allowing one goal. The Mustangs tally came on a power play goal off the stick of CJ Stubbs at 15:42 of the first period.

The Arizona State transfer product picked up his fifth win in as many tries this season.

Freshman Cedric Hansen saw his first game action of the regular season, relieving Jacobson in the 3rd and inheriting a 6-1 lead.

Hansen stopped all six shots sent his way in his twenty minutes of action, preserving the Lakers’ 8-1 lead and sweetening his regular season debut.

“It felt really nice, the boys were really supportive throughout,” Hansen said.  “It’s good to get the first two saves out of the way and kind of settle in afterwards… I’m really glad I got the opportunity to play.”
