Laker Gameday preview: Women’s ice hockey Oswego State Vs. Canton

Last Meeting

Last night the Oswego State Lakers and the SUNY Canton Kangaroos faced off in the Marano Campus Center Ice Arena resulting in a 10-0 shutout victory for the Lakers. Unfortunately for the Kangaroos, they couldn’t keep up with the strong offensive and defensive lines and were only able to get eight shots on goal.

Mariah Madrigal was in net for the Lakers while SUNY Canton switched out its goalie, Brooke Susac, for lllie Berisha to play for the last 30 minutes of the game. Laker goals were scored by Olivia Ellis, Madison Byrne, Laura Thacker, Eryn Stewart, Alexa Aramburu, Andrea Noss and Alli Ullrich.

Hat Trick History

Olivia Ellis earned her first hat trick of her career last night with her three goals. Ellis has proved to be a powerhouse for the Lakers. So far this season, Ellis has played in eleven games, scoring eight goals. She aids her teammates with twelve assists on the season, breaking the Oswego State record with a career total of 35 assists.

Players to Watch

Lakers- Alexa Aramburu

Aramburu is a strong asset for the Lakers. She has scored a total of 25 goals so far in her career and has played in 90 total games. She has shined this season with nine goals and 10 assists, making her a valued player for head coach Diane Dillon. Aramburu shows strong chemistry on the ice with her fellow linemates and has proved to be an excellent team player. She assisted Ellis with two of the three goals that earned her the hat trick in last night’s game.

Kangaroos- Noelle Niemiec
With five goals so far on the season, Niemiec is one of the top scorers for the Lakers. Last night, she was only able to take one shot on the Lakers’ goal, which was unsuccessful. Niemiec might be able to pull through tonight and get more shots in on the Lakers’ goaltender, if she can break through their defensive line.

Game Prediction

After last night’s lopsided Laker victory, the Kangaroos are really going to need to figure out how to step their game up if they’re going to get some quality shots in tonight. If not, this game will have, if not the same, a similar outcome to last night’s game. Oswego State should come out strong, as they always do. SUNY Canton might be able to squeeze a goal in, but it depends on how they play in tonight’s game. Oswego State has the abilities to outstate the Kangaroos, and the lineup is definitely going to showcase that throughout the game.
