Last Night’s Matchup
The Oswego State Women’s hockey team (3-0-0) is looking for it’s fourth straight victory today against the Chatham Cougars (0-1) on homecoming weekend here in Oswego. This is the second game in a row that both team will be playing each other with the Lakers pulling out a 2-1 victory last night thanks to goals from Brennan Butler and Alexa Aramburu. Mariah Madrigal had a strong performance in net having 14 saves.
Today’s Matchup/ By The Numbers
The Lakers are off to a hot start this year and look to keep the ball rolling against a Chatham Cougars team that struggled last year in there own right with a (8-15-1) record. Oswego State is scoring an average of 4 goals a game in their first three match ups as the offense has definitely hit it’s stride to start the season. The Chatham Cougars having only playing there first game yesterday are scoring only 1 goal per game. The Lakers scoring has been good so far but so has there defensive game this year especially with an improved penalty kill operating at nearly 90% on the PK. The Chatham Cougars seem to have a strong defensive team as well due to only allowing 2 goals last night to a high powered Lakers offense. The offensive production for Chatham most improve though as the team only had 15 shots on goal last night.
Players to Watch
Lakers- Alexa Aramburu
Aramburu is off to a strong start this season and looks to have added more of a scoring touch as she already has 2 goals in the first three games this season. Aramburu looks determined on the ice and looks willing to drive to the net to create offense for the this Lakers team which is exactly what they want from her
Cougars- Jenny Jones
Jones had the only goal for the Cougars yesterday and looks like a force to be reckoned with this season. The Lakers will have their work cut out for them when trying to stop her today. Jones is great on the penalty kill as she had a shorthanded goal in yesterday matchup.
Game Prediction
Don’t let the Chatham Cougars record last year fool you. They definitely look like an improved team this year. The Lakers who had been scoring 5 goals a game their first 2 games definitely ran into a defensively sound team yesterday. In a second game of a back to back their definitely will be some tired legs out there so expect the game to be a bit slower today. My prediction for the game will be 3-1 Lakers victory giving them an impressive (4-0-0) start to the season.
