Women’s hockey will be away at Castleton College today playing int their second game of the season. Last season the Spartans finished off with a record of 17-8-2 and they’re planning on continuing the momentum for today’s game against the Lakers.
Last Meeting
The Lakers are planning on continuing their winning streak after defeating New England College 6-2 last night. Last season, the Lakers fell to the Spartans 3-2.
Goalie Matchup
The Lakers should be playing freshman Amber Samonek. After playing in last night’s game against New England College, Samonek only let in 2 of the 18 shots she faced.
The Spartans should be playing senior Rachael Brazil. Taking over for last season’s senior goalie, Jess Cameron, Brazil should be eager to take the ice after only playing in three games last season. She currently has 54 saves for the Spartans and with a .915 save percentage, she might be able to challenge the Lakers offense.
Players to Watch
For the Lakers, Jacquelin White has had an incredible start to the 2016-2017 season. White scored an unassisted goal against New England College in last night’s game, contributing to their win. White has already shown progression this season and there is showing no signs of slowing down.
For the Spartans, a player to look out for would be junior Hannah Rose. She is both an offensive and defensive threat. Rose played in 27 games in the 2015-2016 season, scoring nine goals and having 7 assists for the Spartans.
Prediction
Even though the Lakers had a shaky start to last nights game, they should be able to pull through to pull out a win today. The Spartans are definitely going to challenge them, but the Lakers’ newcomers have been coming out strong in recent games. They might start out slow again, but they’ll finish off with another win.
