Quick Recap: Women’s Hockey vs SUNY Plattsburgh

Another slow start for the Lakers but overall a better first period despite trailing by one more goal than yesterday. Plattsburgh State registered 16 shots to the Lakers’ two.

Melissa Ames opened the scoring on a deflection that beat Madrigal. Megan Delay took a pass from her D partner, Julia Duquette, and fired it toward a crowd in front. This opened the scoring at the 5:40 mark of the first.

Around ten minutes later Plattsburgh State widened their lead to two as Courtney Moriarty powered her way to the net, following her own shot, then buried the rebound. Really nice individual effort to increase the Cardinal lead at 15:31 in the first period.

Adjustments were made in the Laker locker room during the first intermission. Neither team scored in the middle frame but Oswego State looked better than ever against this Plattsburgh State team. Not perfect hockey but the Lakers weren’t out of it at this point.

Down two goals going into the third Coach Dillon’s team had to feel pretty good about themselves.

As good as the Lakers looked in that third period it just wasn’t enough. Oswego State matched their shot total on the day in the first two minutes of play as they tallied five and looked like they were about to break through any minute. They failed to do so all period and Plattsburgh State capitalized yet again.

Melissa Sheeran scored her first of the game as she moved around the Laker defense then powered her way to the net only to backhand her shot top shelf. Kayla Meneghin was credited with the assist on the third goal of the game scored at 11:58 of the third.

Melissa Sheeran and Kayla Meneghin got on the score sheet again as Sheeran was open in front and Meneghin was able to feed her the puck from below the red line with just under four minutes to play

That wasn’t all though. The Cardinals scored their twelfth goal of the weekend as Melissa Ames put a loose puck past Madrigal to extend the lead to five. Mackenzie Millen got in on that goal for her first point of the weekend at 19:47 of the third period.

Oswego State got out shot 42-11 and lost for the third time in their last six games.
