Laker Gameday Preview: Women’s Hockey @ Morrisville State

As this Laker team packs the bus and heads off to face Morrisville State tonight at 7 p.m. they have to be thinking about this upcoming weekend. As talked about all week these games are just the final tune up for the Cardinals. After a good shwoing last night with a 4-1 win over Morrisville State they Lakers are back on track and that is enormous.

Going in to tonight’s game Coach Dillon will have to be really looking at different line combos and just try to fine tune some defensive downfalls from last night. It’s a real simple game for Oswego State and they just have to do the little things tonight and they should come away with the victory.

Morrisville State isn’t better than the Lakers but do match-up well so it could be a very interesting game. Oswego State was supposed to beat Chatham this past weekend but failed, you can’t take any team lightly. More than ever the Lakers need momentum and a big win tonight would certainly give that to them heading into the Plattsburgh State games. It’s getting old to type but it’s true and the only real focus the Lakers had all week.

Renee Schmaltz should be in goal tonight for the Mustangs. She came in relief last night and played quite well, only allowing one goal that came on an Oswego State power play. Granted this time came after the Lakers deployed a more defensive approach and played more conservatively.  If the Mustangs want to win their first non conference game tonight she will have to limit any mistakes.

Players to Watch

Oswego State: Andrea Noss

Noss scored a goal and assisted on another last night. She was also out on the ice for all four Laker goals. Noss is now third on the team in scoring and will need to be a constant scoring threat to help Oswego State’s offense flourish. Look for her to get on the board again tonight.

Morrisville State: Maria deWilde

deWilde can shoot and she was one of the better offensive forwards all night in the stagnant Mustang offense. She fired many pucks wide but was willing to shoot any oppurtuinity she got, which is a good thing because Mosrrisville state didn’t have too many. She was credited with two shots last night but took at least four more. Tonight she may be finally able to find the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season.

Game Prediction

The Oswego State Lakers were strong all game last night and should be able to do just that again. With some fine tuning I don’t see why the Lakers can’t make this a blowout. With the Mustangs short bench and growing losing streak Oswego State could roll all four line and break down this Morrisville State attack. The Mustangs could be in for a long night whether the Lakers capitalize on their scoring chances or not.
