The first period came to a close with Oswego State leading 1-0. At the 8:20 mark Alli Ullrich ripped a shot on goal and Brianna Rice was there for the deflection to beat Justina Mayr for the game’s opening tally.
Zoe Harkins missed the net on a 2 on 1 chance and right before that Jackie Schneider drove a puck wide that trickled through the slot and ended up on her stick.
The second period ended in a tie as Neumann made adjustments to create chances off the rush and it paid off. Bek Lucas, their leading scoring, took a 2 on 1 odd man rush pass from Steph Grundy and beat Tori Trovato five hole at the 17:30 mark.
Both teams had their flashes but Oswego State still outplayed the Knights for most of the period. The Lakers didn’t capitalize on their chances while Neumann did. Shots were 25-9 at the end of the second.
The Lakers capitalized in the final frame to put the game away. Olivia Ellis scored the game winner at the 6:58 mark. Jayme McCreary took a shot from the half boards and Ellis was on the doorstep and didn’t miss. Ashley Lyman was credited with the secondary assist. The insurance marker came at the 9:16 mark when Alexa Aramburu went top shelf to beat Justina Mayr. Olivia Ellis and Andrea Noss assisted on that goal.
Oswego State improved to 6-2-2 overall on the year while Neumann dropped to 1-8-1 on the year. These two teams meet again tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Marano Campus Center Ice Arena.
